Liverpool have seen their improved bid of about £41m plus add ons for Belgian midfielder Romeo Lavia rejected by Southampton.
Southampton on the other hand are adamant and have refused to reduce the asking price for 19-year-old – who they value at £50m – worth.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool came back with an improved bid which was reportedly worth £41m after their initial bid of £37m was rejected.
However, the quick rejection from the Saints have raised doubts about the possibility of the deal ever being a success anytime soon.
Andre, 22, is a Brazilian who has featured in 144 games for the Serie A side after breaking into the senior squad in 2020.
Andre – who is a holding midfielder – made his debut for the Selecao in a 4-2 friendly defeat to Senegal in June.
Liverpool target Lavia signed for Soton from Manchester City last summer and was impressive on his debut season in the Premier League.
However, his contributions could not really help Southampton avoid relegation form the English top flight league to the Championship.
The relation did not stop the likes of top four Premier League clubs from seeking to sign the Belgian from Southampton.
Jurgen Klopp has insisted that he wants to improve his midfield following Henderson’s move to Al Ettifaq for £12m and Fabinho joining fellow Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad for £40m.
Chelsea have also reached out to Soton for the player, as they have failed to reach an agreement with Brighton for their £100m-rated midfielder Moises Caicedo.
Who Is Romeo Lavia And Why Does Liverpool Want Him?
Roméo Lavia is a Belgian footballer who was born on 6 January, 2004 and plays as a defensive midfielder for Southampton and the Belgium national team.
Romeo Lavia was born in Belgium and he is of Ghanaian descent. Even though he can play for both countries, he decided not to play for the latter.
Lavia joined from Manchester City last summer, but he is expected to leave after Saints were relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season.
Lavia has a clause in his contract which grants Manchester City an option to buy back their former player at £40m – it’s not active until the summer of 2024.
And this is the reason why Southampton are looking to demand a fee which is above that amount for the upcoming window.
Lavia is a defensive midfielder and he stated that his inspirations are Barcelona player Sergio Busquets and his former Man City teammate Fernandinho.
The Belgian has visibly expressed himself to be comfortable when recovering the ball, using intelligence, tenacity, along with pace. He is also gifted at making line-breaking deep passes.
