Liverpool manager conceded that if Mo Salah decides to go in 2023, the Reds will be helpless to intervene.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that no more progress has been made in contract negotiations between the club and Mo Salah.
Salah’s current contract will expire at the end of next season.
The Reds would hate to lose one of the world’s best strikers, especially one who is in such good form right now.
Jürgen Klopp’s words
Klopp told reporters on Friday that “Mo absolutely expects this team to be ambitious.”
“We were and are in the last few years.”
“We’re at a point where we can’t do much more. But I don’t believe it is related to it. Essentially, it’s Mo’s decision. The club did the best it could. That’s the way things are.”
“There’s nothing negative to say about it. From my perspective, it’s OK.”
“It’s precisely how it should be at this very moment. Everything is in place. Nothing else happened after that, no signing, no rejection, nothing.”
“All we have to do now is wait. It’s perfectly fine. There’s no need to haste in that case.”
Salah’s agent “responds” to Klopp
Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, appeared to react strongly to Klopp’s statements.
Abbas took to Twitter shortly after the manager’s meeting, and while he did not say anything in his tweet, a slew of smiling faces undoubtedly supported the notion that he was not impressed with what he heard.
Salah and his agent would benefit from the fact that, given his present form, there would be no shortage of suitors waiting to sign him on a free transfer in 2023.
This season, the forward has scored 27 goals in 34 appearances for the Reds, who have already won the Carabao Cup and are still competing in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.
If Mo Salah refuses to sign a new contract with Liverpool, he is expected to go to Real Madrid. Mo Salah is 29 years old, he will be 30 this year and there is little that Liverpool can do to guarantee him a multi-year contract.
