Liverpool have released an official club statement on reports that Luis Diaz’s parents have been kidnapped in Colombia.
Gunmen reportedly stopped Diaz’s parents as they were making their way back home in Barrancas, Colombia.
The winger’s mother, Cilenis Marulanda, was rescued by police, but his father remains missing, according to the country’s president Gustavo Petro
Diaz’s mother has reportedly spoken to reputable police director William Rene Salamanca, and efforts have been stepped up to find the winger’s dad.
Liverpool have released a club statement on the incident.
“Liverpool Football Club can confirm it is aware of an ongoing situation involving the family of Luis Diaz in Colombia,” the statement read.
“It is our fervent hope that the matter is resolved safely and at the earliest possible opportunity. In the meantime, the player’s welfare will continue to be our immediate priority.”
Also, Colombian Football Federation have reacted to the incident.
“The Colombian Football Federation rejects the security situation that the parents of our player Luis Díaz are going through,” the Federation said in a statement.
“From the FCF, we express our solidarity with him and his entire family, and we call for the relevant authorities to act as quickly as possible to resolve the situation.”
It is still unclear whether Luis Diaz will play for Liverpool against Bournemouth following the distressing report. He is yet to comment on the incident.
