German tabloid newspaper, Bild has claimed that Premier League champions, Liverpool is interested in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, Denis Zakaria.
This was claimed by Bild’s reliable source, Christian Falk. The reliable Bild reporter told Empire of the Kop that the Swiss midfielder, who is valued at €50m, will be a potential bargain and he will certainly be a welcome boost to elite clubs.
23-year-old Zakaria during his 31 appearances across all competitions last season scored two goals and created two assists. His contribution also helped Monchengladbach secure Champions League qualification.
“I know that Liverpool have their eyes on Zakaria from Mönchengladbach. This is a very talented player who will hit the market next year. A move to the Premier League is easy for him to imagine,” he said.
Why is Liverpool interested in Denis Zakaria?
The Swiss international is a versatile talent that could flourish under Klopp’s tutelage in Liverpool. If the former Dortmund coach has such a talent at his disposal, he will have further options as he can be played in a traditional central midfield role or even as a makeshift center-back.
The promising Switzerland international has now been identified as a potential target for Manchester United as well.
It’s therefore not surprising to see Falk identify him, Zakaria, as one of the players who will leave the Bundesliga next summer. This could be due to Liverpool’s current options in the middle of the park.
Zakaria has shown that he is very comfortable on the ball as a defensive midfielder. This will no doubt appeal to top clubs in the near future
Falk had back in Aprilclaimed that Liverpool was ‘in contact’ with Zakaria’s agent over a possible move to the Premier League club this summer.
“The profile of the players who are wanted is clear. This was shown in the current transfer window.
“[Jurgen] Klopp needs fresh blood and competition on the wing, in the center and in central defense. If these players don’t come this summer, they’ll try in the coming season. Speculating about specific names now would not be serious. It is far too early for that.
“I know that Liverpool has their eyes on Zakaria of Mönchengladbach. This is a very talented player who will hit the market next year. A move to the Premier League is easy for him to imagine.”
Liverpool has so far signed only in Konstantinos Tsimikas from Olympiacos to provide competition for left-back Andy Robertson while they wait to see what happens concerning Bayern Munich midfielder.
