Lionel Messi sent a heartfelt message to Sergio Busquets after it was confirmed that the Spanish midfielder will leave FC Barcelona at the end of the season.
During his stint at the Catalan club, Lionel Messi played 567 games alongside Busquets more than with any other players in his playing career.
The two Barcelona greats won a collection of trophies together, including three UEFA Champions League, eight La Liga titles, and seven Copa del Rays.
Lionel Messi took to his Instagram page to praise the Spanish international, he wrote; “On the pitch always with 5 but in reality as a player and as a person you are a 10, Busi”.
“I wish you the best in your new stage and always, both you and your family.”
Messi added; “Thank you for on and off the pitch, there were so many moments we spent together, many good and some also complicated, and they will stay forever, Big hug, @5sergiob”.
Sergio Busquets announced on Wednesday, 10th of May, that he will be leaving Barcelona after the current season as his contract with FC Barcelona is set to expire on June 30, 2023. This will end Busquets’ remarkable run of 18 years with the club.
Sergio Busquets has made 719 appearances for the Spanish powerhouse since breaking into the first team in 2008.
The 34-year-old Busquets is out of contract at the end of June and will be moving on to new pastures.
However, FC Barcelona offered Sergio a new contract which would have led him to take a 70 percent salary deduction but he turned it down.
Al-Hilal, a team in the Saudi Pro League, has reportedly made Busquets an offer of around £13 million per season to join the team.
It has been reported that Al-Hilal is also interested in acquiring Jordi Alba, a longtime defender for Barcelona.
Al-Hilal, a Saudi Arabian club, has been mentioned as a possible destination for a reunion between Messi and Busquets.
Although his departure from PSG is widely anticipated, Messi’s father Jorge has denied reports that he has already agreed to terms with Al-Hilal that would see his son earn £522 million annually.
Messi could still sign with Barcelona this summer, but if he does, Busquets won’t be on the field with him.
On the other hand, Pedri Gonzalez also pays tribute to Busquets via his Instagram post.
He wrote; “I feel tremendously privileged to have share wardrobe and experience with you these three years, Bisi. For me, you have been a great teacher, colleague, captain, and above all, reference on and off the field.
“I hope I know how to pass on to those who come to the knowledge and values that you have passed on to me since day one”.
He added; “You know both me and my family appreciate you and yours very much, thank you for everything. You will be missed! Always Busy”.
