Lionel Messi has cleared the air on a possible return to Barcelona after he won his 8th Ballon d’Or award.
Messi saw off Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe to emerge winner of the 2023 Ballon d’Or and it was another moment for the football sensation to reflect on his epic journey to unparalleled greatness in the game.
In a quote shared by Fabrizio Romano, Lionel Messi revealed his enduring love for the club (Barcelona) that made him who he is as he exclaimed ”it’s the club I love and will love all my life.”
“Of course I follow Barca. It’s the club that I love and will love all my life. They have a great team. They are ready to able to fight for this Champions League. I have no doubt that they are a candidate.”
“They just need not too much pressure” he said.
On the possibility of returning to Barcelona one day, the Inter Miami sensation revealed of course he would one day want to return to the club and say a proper farewell to the fans after he heroic career.
“I will want to return to Barcelona one day and bid the fans and the club a normal farewell,” Messi added.

He rose to the summit of the his career with the club, winning all major club, international, and individual awards and trophies. Barcelona could not avert the seismic and emotional transfer exit as they were riddled in hurdles of financial crisis back in 2021.
Before chosing to pit tent with Inter Miami in MLS, Messi was strongly linked with a possible return to Barcelona but he turned down the proposal citing the club’s lingering financial crisis that warranted his exit in 2021.
However, he has now admitted that a return to Camp Nou is not an impossibility as he close in on the twilights of his career.
