Is Lionel Messi losing bearing in his once-terrific career at Inter Miami? Former NFL player Jason Kelce thinks so. And Kelce did not mince words as he offered a scathing assessment of Argentine’s short spell with Inter Miami in the MLS.
Messi shocked the football world when he made the surprise switch to Inter Miami after an overdecorated career in Europe.
Inter Miami co-owner and Manchester United legend David Beckham poached the iconic footballer from PSG after his contract with the club expired.
According to Beckham, it was an honor having a legendary footballer in the class of Leo grace the newly-founded Florida-based outfit hungry for MLS glory.
Leo did offer the spark that saw Inter Miami overturn their misfortunes, helping the club win their first silverware – the Leagues Cup trophy in his debut campaign.
However, to football fans like Jason Kelce, the Argentine sensation is showing every day that he has lost the youthful vigor, energy, spark, and momentum to continue on elite-level performance for Inter Miami.
Kelce insisted the record-extending Ballon d’Or winner is a shadow of his old self, and is gradually losing it to the fetters of old age at Inter Miami.
“Yeah, Messi was a great player at Barcelona. But he is gradually losing it with age. He is not just at par with his prime at Inter Miami,” Kelce said.
While Kelce’s downbeat assessment of Leo is his individual opinion it veers off the stats.
Leo must have gradually fallen off the pecking order due to recurrent injury issues since he joined Inter Miami. However, the World Cup winner is still top of his game with the Herons.
He was instrumental to the club’s Leagues Cup-winning campaign last season, scoring 10 goals with an assist in 7 appearances in the competition, as per Transfermarkt.
This season, the Barcelona legend has gotten off the mark with 14 goal contributions – 9 goals and 5 assists – in 9 appearances for the club.
