Lionel Messi begins contract renewal talks with Paris Saint Germain

Paris Saint Germain and the representatives of Lionel Messi are said to be negotiating the possibility of renewing the contract of the Argentine icon.

Lionel Messi penned a two-year-deal with Paris Saint Germain in 2021 after spending over twenty (20) years with Spanish side, Barcelona.

His contract is set to expire in June later this year but it has an option of a one-year extension. 

Lionel Messi earns an estimated salary within the region of £52million per year and a reported £1million per week. 

The Argentine has not really blossomed at Paris Saint Germain, but his greatness is never in doubt and due to his heroics at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Paris Saint Germain are looking to extend the contract of the superstar.

Messi who is currently 35-years-old wears the number 30 shirt at Paris Saint Germain and there are indications that he might remain at the club beyond this season.

The football legend has scored twenty-six (26) goals in sixty (60) appearances for the Paris based side with the 2022/23 season looking like his best season with the Parisians in terms of numbers. 

According to transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, first meeting between representatives of Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain took place on Wednesday.

On present ground, there has been no full agreement on the length of contract, salary range as other details and information would be discussed between both parties again. 

The information gathered didn’t include the timeframe when Messi would sign the new deal as more negotiations are expected to be held in the coming weeks.

Both parties from reports want to continue together and there has been a verbal agreement to that light but further details and the terms of the contract would be outlined and discussed in February/March.

Lionel Messi has made eighteen appearances for the Parisians and has scored ten goals.

However, top media outlet in Spain, Marca, published a news article that the first contractual talks on Messi’s extension with the Parisians ended in failure. 

Paris Saint-Germain proposed a one-year-deal for the Argentine and the stance of the footballer is to remain with the French capital based club. 

The offer from Paris Saint Germain is the only concrete offer from a club in the top leagues as even his former club, Barcelona or any other big clubs are yet to show interest in the Argentine.

Six-hundred-and-seventy-two (672) of those goals came at Barcelona while twenty-six (26) of those goals have been scored for the Parisians. 

Internationally, La Pulga Atomica has scored a whopping ninety-eight (98) goals in one-hundred-and-seventy-two (172) appearances.
