Lionel Messi has reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with French Ligue 1 side, Paris Saint Germain hours after his emotional exit from FC Barcelona.
Earlier today, Lionel Messi held a press conference at Barcelona to officially announce his exit from the Spanish club three days after it was confirmed that he would not continue his reign at Barcelona.
Since the back and forth between the Argentina international and Barca, PSG have been on the side waiting for the chance to sign the football icon.
After Barca announced that they would not be able to offer Messi a new contract due to financial constraints, a report broke in France that PSG are willing to offer Messi two years deal.
The club that have been making efforts to win their first UEFA Champions League title, are said to be ready to pay Messi £25 million per year if he signs the proposed deal.
Reports claimed that Messi and his representatives have received a document containing PSG’s offer directly from the French club which they have been carefully studying.
During the press conference on Sunday, August 8, 2021, the 6 time Ballon d’Or winner confirmed that his transfer to PSG is a “possibility”. But added that nothing has been agreed yet.
Hours later, a football expert working with ESPN, Julien Laurens, confirmed that the deal has already been done and all that is left is for Messi to undergo medical.
He wrote on Twitter: “Messi to PSG is done! Medical tonight or tomorrow morning in Paris. Then he will sign his contract. This is incredible.”

Messi spent the last 21 years of his football career at FC Barcelona. He played 17 years of that in the club’s senior team. During that period, he helped the club to win 35 major trophies.
He wanted to remain at FC Barcelona but he could not despite accepting a 50 percent pay cut, thanks to the high rate of debt at Barcelona.
“I offered to reduce my salary by 50% and they didn’t ask me for anything else,” Messi said. “It is not true that they asked me for anything more.
“I only know that it was not possible because of La Liga because the club did not want to go into more debt.”
