Paris Saint Germain forward, Lionel Messi said many things will change after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The 34-year-old football icon who is currently on international assignment with Argentina made this comment when reporters asked him about his future.

Lionel Messi has been playing professional football since 2004 when he made his debut at FC Barcelona. He also started his international football career on August 17, 2005.

This means that the record 7 times Ballon d’Or winner have been to the World Cup four consecutive times. The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will make it five times Lionel Messi has played in a World Cup.

After the FIFA World Cup qualification game between Argentina and Venezuela which ended 3-0 in favor of Argentina earlier today, Messi said he does not know what he would do after the World Cup.

“I don’t know what I will do after the World Cup”, he said. “I am thinking about what is coming. After Qatar, I will have to reassess many things.”

Lionel Messi has achieved everything in club football, especially during his 17 years era at FC Barcelona. Most of his critics used to criticize him for not winning much for his senior national team.

After many years of trying to win a major title for Argentina, he succeeded in achieving the feat in 2021. He helped Argentina to win the 2021 Copa America which established him as one of the greatest footballers of all time.

One of the dreams he wants to achieve is to win the FIFA World Cup with Argentina. He has pushed the national team as far as the final of the World Cup but failed to win it.

Lionel Messi said: “It has been a while that I am happy here, since before winning the Copa. I am thankful for all this they make me feel every time I come to Argentina.”

Can Lionel Messi win the 2022 FIFA World Cup?

Though Argentina has one more World Cup qualification match to play, they have already qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Due to the form of the national team, Argentina are seen as one of the favorites to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup which is the dream of Lionel Messi.

The FIFA World Cup is the only major title Lionel Messi is yet to win and all eyes will be on him when the 2022 edition of the tournament commenced in November this year.

When reporters asked him whether he was hoping to add the FIFA World Cup to the Copa America title he won with Argentina last year, the legendary football icon who will turn 35-year-old on June 24, 2022, said he does not know his fate ahead of the tournament.

The Argentina international said: “I don’t know, the truth is I don’t know.

“I think about that is coming, which is close, Ecuador (on Tuesday). The preparation matches are in June and September.

“Let’s hope these go the best way possible. But for sure after the World Cup, many things will change.”

While at PSG, a team Messi started playing for on August 10, 2021, the football icon has scored 7 goals and provided 11 assists in 26 games in all competitions.
