Gerardo Martino’s Inter Miami came crashing at the Red Bull Arena as they stumbled to a shocking 4-0 defeat to New York Red Bulls in MLS matchday 6 clash.

It was a rout as the home side ran riot over the Herons in their biggest MLS defeat since the arrival of A-list Barcelona legends.

Former Inter Miami player Lewis Morgan was the Herons’ nightmare on the night as he led the rout against his star-studded former side with a sensational hat-trick to seal the thumping victory.

Morgan opened the scoring just three minutes into the game after a bright start by the home side.

Despite leading by the loan goal, the New Yorkers were still in charge of proceedings. Inter Miami posed no formidable threat to their opponents.

Luis Suarez lit the visitors’ attack with some flashes of his individual brilliance but it is was not enough to chalk off the hosts’ narrow lead.

At the break, the Herons were still trailing by a lone goal and showed no promising signs of a comeback.

The second half was a no departure from the first with Inter Miami playing second fiddle to the New Yorkers.

Lewis Morgan was again on target for the hosts in the 51st minute to double the lead and bag his brace.

Six minutes after the hour-mark, Carmona dealt a final blow to Inter Miami’s comeback hopes, scoring to make it 3-0.

In the 70th minute, Lewis Morgan recorded his hat-trick to wrap up a huge MLS victory for the home side.

Inter Miami finally had the ball in the back of the net in the dying embers of the game through Allen but the goal was chalked off after VAR check.

It ended with a 4-0 defeat to the Herons, marking their second defeat this season. The loss has seen the team slip to the second spot in the Eastern Conference table with 10 points after six games.

Lionel Messi missed the match due to injury and was a glaring absence as the Florida-based outfit collapsed under Lewis Morgan’s prolific goalscoring run.

Gerardo Martino will hope to return the team to winning ways when they host New York City on Sunday, March 31, 2024.
