Leicester City have shown in the last 5 years that they can be counted among the big boys in the Premier League. Since they stunned the world at the end of the 2015-2016 season by winning the Premier League for the first time in the history of the club, the club has remained consistent in the league’s top 6.
Last season, they were on the verge of finishing 3rd on the league table but towards the end of the season, injuries to some of their key players forced them to start losing games and dropping points until they dropped from the top 4 and settled for the 5th spot. Their 5th placed finish qualified them for Europa League.
This season, the manager of the club, Brendan Rodgers, is expected to do more than a 5th place finish and probably compete for the title. The current set of players the club parades seem ready to attempt the unthinkable once again.
Rodgers and his boys started the 2020-2021 season like a house on fire. Their first victim was a newly promoted side, West Brom. Leicester City played the newcomers on September 13 and beat them 0-3. After that, their next opponent was Burnley which visited King Power Stadium on September 20. The match ended 4-2 in favor of Leicester.
On September 27, pundits, critics, and even some fans of the club thought Leicester will drop points when they visited Etihad Stadium to play Manchester City. To the surprise of many, Leicester stunned Pep Guardiola and his men 2-5.
These victories have kept Leicester City at the top of the league table and one can only watch to see how far the club can maintain the momentum.
