Leeds United launch $LUFC Fan Token, crypto that will enhance interaction with fans

Premier League club, Leeds United is the latest club in Europe to join the fast-growing list of clubs that can interact with their fans via Socios.com. The platform was created by Chiliz, a blockchain provider for the global sports and entertainment industry.

Socios.com is a direct-to-consumer (D2C) platform that leverages blockchain technology to provide sporting organizations with the tools to interact with their supporters across the world.

Earlier in the week, Leeds United announced that their partnership with Chiliz would lead to the production of a customized cryptocurrency that could be used as a payment option for their supporters.

According to the club, the new cryptocurrency would be known as $LUFC. When the club launches the cryptocurrency, the $LUFC Fan Token will be available on the fan engagement and rewards app Socios.

This development is believed to be a way to encourage more engagement between football fans and Leeds United.

To promote the new digital currency, Leeds United said the club’s card-carrying members and ticket holders would have the option of receiving free $LUFC Fan Token for a limited time once the token is available on Socios.

Leeds United’s fans can use the token to pay for subscriptions on the club’s website and carry out other forms of transactions.

Fan Tokens are collectible digital assets, minted on the Chiliz $CHZ blockchain, that will allow Leeds United supporters to be a part of the fast-growing digital community Socios.

The club’s statement read: “The $LUFC Fan Token will launch soon, with all existing MyLeeds members and season ticket holders having the option to receive a free $LUFC Fan Token for a limited time. Just one $LUFC Fan Token is enough to allow holders to access every engagement opportunity on Socios.com.”

As of the last check, there are about 48 major sporting organizations that have partnered with Socios.com to launch Fan Tokens.

In football, some renowned football clubs have also keyed into the digital community. The clubs that have their tokens include FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, AC Milan, Atlético Madrid, Manchester City, Inter Milan, Arsenal, and Everton.

Some football national teams have also keyed into the digital community. The most prominent among them are Argentina and Portugal national football teams.
