LaLiga fans could be traveling to the United States to watch LaLiga matches from the 2025/26 season.

LaLiga president Javier Tebas confirmed the Spanish top-flight matches may be moved stateside after next season.

Speaking with Newspaper Extension, the LaLiga chief said;

“I think it could be in the 2025-26 season, but La Liga will play official matches abroad.

He added the move would further expand the reach of the Spanish topflight in the Americas and help build on the existing bond and huge followership.

”An official match in the U.S. will strengthen our position in the North American market, which is the second market for La Liga after Spain.

”Other very competitive leagues are coming so we cannot always do the same thing, but we cannot allow them to overtake us.”

According to Daily Mail, Javier Tebas’ plan to take LaLiga matches to the US was previously opposed by FIFA, who insist all official league matches of different domestic leagues must be played within the territory of the member associations.

However, it is now understood that Relevent Sports – a sport-promoting firm based in New York in the US – have resolved with FIFA to open doors for FIFA member associations to hold domestic league matches abroad.

LaLiga is not the only top European league that has attempted to build their audience abroad by staging competitive games involving LaLiga clubs outside the shores of Spain. Italian league seem to be taking the same direction by allowing Super Cup matches to be staged outside Italy.

England allow Premier League clubs to stage mini-tournaments such as the pre-season summer series outside England.

However, Spain will be the first top European league to play league matches outside their territory should Javier Tebas’ plans sail through.
