Kylian Mbape has come under attack by La Liga Boss Javier Tebas for snubbing a move to La Liga in the 2022 summer transfer window. Real Madrid has been on the trail of the PSG talisman for a year but was stunned when the Frenchman decided to renew his contract with PSG.
Javier Tebas is one of the staunch critiques of Paris Saint Germain. Tebas had slammed clubs controlled by the Emirates, such as Manchester City and PSG, as potent threats to European football. According to him, these clubs are run by powerful state actors who sink monumental state funds into the clubs and break Fair Play Rules at ease, getting away with impunity.
Tebas redirected his shots to Kylian Mbappe this time and the French Ligue 1 at a Press Conference on the La Liga squad’s spending limits. He lashed at the French youngster when asked about the state of La Liga given the exits of top stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Real Madrid were Keen On Mbappe Deal
Real Madrid were keen on signing Mbappe in the 2022 summer transfer window. His contract with PSG ended at the end of last season, and there was optimism among the Merengues that the highly-rated and promising youngster would switch allegiance. Mbappe had previously made known his childhood fantasy and ambition to be a Madrid player, adding impetus to a potential deal.
Mbappe Stuns Madrid, Sign New Jumbo Deal With PSG
After it appeared that Mbappe’s departure to Real Madrid is a sealed deal, the 22-year-old made a decision that separated the Parc Des Princes crowd and the Santiago Bernabeu into winners and losers, respectively. In PSG’s final home match against Metz, Mbappe took the microphone and announced to the crowd that he had chosen to stay and had penned down a three-year contract. This announcement suddenly flung the stadium into ecstasy as expectant PSG fans welcomed the decision with great joy, but the reverse was the case in the Spanish capital. The news must have been greeted with shock at Santiago Bernabeu.
Mbappe dashed the hopes of the Merengues while committing his midterm future to the Paris club. At the stadium, he said that ‘Paris is his home and he will always be committed to playing for the team and winning trophies.’ PSG President Nasser Al Khelaifi was equally happy to break ‘the beautiful news’.
La Liga Boss Javier Tebas Fumes
While it was joy at Parc Des Princes, it was disappointment at Santiago and Javier Tebias, who had lost some top stars from the La Liga – with Lionel Messi being the latest geniuses of the game to leave Barca for PSG and the Fench League 1. La Liga’s strict Fair Play Rules overseen by Javier Tebias had been at the core of Lionel Messi’s exit from La Liga. Hence, Javier Tebias throws shade at competitor leagues and clubs like PSG who accommodate this player with huge wage bills.
Javier Tebas Takes Dig At Mbappe and French League 1
In a public presentation on La Liga club’s squad spending limits, Tebas responded in a somewhat blunt and critical manner when he was asked whether the La Liga is lacking star names after Lionel Messi and Ronaldo left the league. In his reply, Tebas said;
“If we look at the clubs where they are, we see that these are clubs that are pouring money. Of course, we would have liked them to come, but they weren’t there last year either.”
Tebas then jumped on Mbappe, saying;
“Mbappe stayed in a championship that is not competitive.”
Tebas has been a vocal critic of clubs funded by Arab investors who plunged state funds into the club, beating the competition and flouting FFP Rules at ease with PSG in focus. Mbappe’s scuttled deal with Real Madrid left the Merengues and La Liga hierarchy red-faced; hence the dig at the youngster is not a surprise.
