Kylian Mbappe has shocked PSG with a stunning decision not to renew his contract in 2024.

According to reports, the prolific young forward has tabled a letter to PSG hierachy informing the club of his decision not to renew his contract when it expires in 2024.

In 2021, Kylian Mbappe was on the verge of joining Real Madrid before he was convinced by PSG hierachy to stay at the club and sign a new contract.

PSG tabled a lucrative offer that made the youngster one of the highest-paid footballers to dissuade him from joining Real Madrid and also ward off other suitors.

To the glares and smiles of thousands of PSG fans and club officials at Parc des Princes, Kylian Mbappe announced his new contract renewal with the club. He extended his stay at the club by three more years with an option of a one-year extension which could see him stay at Parc des Princes till 2025.

Mbappe has only one year remaining in his PSG contract. The upcoming 2023/24 season will be his last season at the club. Sources close to PSG have revealed the club have been basking in the hope Kylian Mbappe will renew his contract at the club or trigger the one-year contract extension while both parties sit on the negotiation table for a fresh contract.

Now, the 2022 World Cup top-scorer has told the club he will not trigger the one-year contract extension clause when it expires next year.

The decision is coming as a shock to PSG because the club will now be under pressure to reach out to Mbappe for a fresh new contract or risk losing him as a free agent after next season.

Sources close to PSG have revealed the club’s hierachy have been rattled by the decision coming just a day before the 2023 summer transfer window officially opens in Europe.

Daily Mail reports PSG had long-term plan to keep Kylian Mbappe at the club by planning to sign more France internationals to forster a French identity, attract more French fan base and then keep Mbappe with the French-centered development plan.

Now, the decision by Mbappe not to trigger the contract renewal is set to dismantle such plans and trigger a new development plan for the club.

PSG bought Kylian Mbappe from Monaco for £155m in 2018. According to New York Times, the French giants could sell Mbappe for as high as 160m if they decide to cash out on the prolific forward this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year.

Real Madrid are leading the list of clubs interested in signing Kylian Mbappe and will be prompted to go after the forward again this summer after losing out in 2021.

The exit of Kylian Mbappe will mark the end of an era at PSG with Lionel Messi and Neymar also leaving the club.
