Kylian Mbappe by now should be a Real Madrid player if only he agreed to join the Los Blancos in the summer.
The Spanish giants had once again risen to the top of European football after Cristiano Ronaldo left for Juventus, but Eden Hazard’s transfer had proven to be a poor choice, so they lacked a world-famous star to serve as their team’s ambassador.
It was anticipated that the French World Cup champion would join as a free agent and take on that position.
It was no secret that he had been a lifelong admirer of Cristiano Ronaldo, and the majority of supporters thought it was only a matter of time before we saw Mbappe wearing the Royal White jersey, just like his hero.
Even Real Madrid supporters applauded him when PSG came to Santiago Bernabeu in the round of 16 of the Champions League the previous year.
They thought they were viewing Los Blancos’ key summer acquisition. The story had a twist, though.
Mbappe would later agree to a lucrative new contract with PSG, destroying any chance of a sensational free transfer to Real Madrid.
The Frenchman has since clarified his choice.
French professional footballer Kylian Mbappé Lottin (born December 20, 1998) plays forward for Ligue 1 team Paris Saint-Germain and the France national team.
Mbappé, one of the best players in the world, is known for his remarkable speed, dribbling skills, and finishing.
Mbappé started his senior club career in 2015 by playing for Monaco, where he won the Ligue 1 championship. He was born in Paris and raised in the nearby town of Bondy.
Mbappé became the second-most expensive player and most expensive teen player in 2017 when he signed for Paris Saint-Germain for an eventual permanent transfer worth €180 million. He was 18 years old at the time.
He is the club’s second-highest goalscorer of all time there and helped the team to their first UEFA Champions League Final in 2020.
He has won four Ligue 1 championships and three Coupes de France.
What was the actual reason Mbappe rejected Real Madrid?
According to Sports Illustrated, Mbappe explained his choice as follows:
“I always talk about my ambition, what I want to do, and now it’s time.”
“In Paris, the book is fully white. What an opportunity! You have to think differently. Of course, it was easier to go to Madrid. But I have this ambition. I’m French. I’m a child of Paris, and to win in Paris, it’s something really special—really special. It writes your name in the history of your country for life.”
It is safe to say that it was one of the most talked-about and undoubtedly one of the most contentious transfer sagas in football history, especially in light of the fact that Mbappe remained at PSG in the end.
Many Real Madrid supporters now have a bad taste in their mouths and do not want to ever see him join the team again.
In contrast, Mbappe is already the subject of rumors that he wants to leave PSG, only months after agreeing to a new contract.
Let’s see what he has in store for the future.
