Mbappe appeared disrespectful when he was subbed off in the game against Montpellier, and here is why.
The fans called out Kylian Mbappe for acting like a “diva” as he continues to display his frustration towards Paris Saint-Germain’s boss Thomas Tuchel. During PSG’s 5-0 win over Montpellier on Saturday, Mbappe was subbed, he looked upset and uninterested in shaking hands with Thomas at the sideline as he walked off the pitch. This behavior looked bad on the television and some fans have had enough.
It seems like Mbappe wanted to stay on to score more goals but the coach felt like other players should get some minutes too. Thomas Tuchel subbed Mbappe for Mauro Icardi, Mbappe was unhappy and it was a bad scene.
The Frenchmen was replaced by Mauro Icardi in the 69th minute, instead of Mbappe to walk off quietly, he decided to challenge manager Tuchel over his decision. He could be seen upset while having a brief discussion with Tuchel on the touchline. The fans saw it and they labeled him a ‘Diva’.
Both the player and the manager covered their mouths with their hands so that no one could lip-read what they were saying. Though what was being said wasn’t clear, their body language gave it away that something was wrong. Mbappe tried to walk away from the boss a couple of times, but he was held back by Tuchel in an attempt to get his point across to the player. Eventually, angry Mbappe, stormed off on Tuchel to take his seat in the stands.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time Mbappe has caused a scene on the sideline. Back in December, the 21-year-old ignored Tuchel after being subbed off. He would rather play the whole 90 minutes to rack up his stats.
It’s understandable how important being on the pitch means to him. He is currently one of the most valuable players in the world. He’s a World Cup winner, and he is determined to add to his stats each time he plays. In the eyes of the fans, his recent action is unacceptable and it’s seen as being unprofessional.
PSG manager Thomas Tuchel has a tough job on his hands, it’s hard to please all of his players at the same time, as a result, this type of sidle line disagreement can happen again. He was trying to please Mbappe, Neymar, Icardi, and Cavani, and this is tough to attain. With Cavani most likely to leave PSG in the summer, it’s obvious at this point that Mbappe may also want out. His relationship with the boss has deteriorated and he’s also being linked to Real Madrid.
During the post-match conference, reporters caught up with Tuchel to ask him about the tug-of-war between himself and Mbappe. Tuchel in a calm manner had this to say;
“I’m the coach, someone has to decide who goes off and who comes on – it’s me.”
“He is very intelligent, he knows what he is doing. He doesn’t like going off, nobody likes going off. These are not good images, but we are not the only club that has to deal with this sort of thing. It’s not good, because it opens up subjects that go against the team’s state of mind. Too bad.”
“I am not angry, but I am sad because it is not necessary. I explained to him why we did this, and it will stay that way. I will always decide the technical aspects. We don’t play tennis, we play soccer and we have to respect everyone.”
Tuchel was then asked what the next steps would be and refused to rule out punishing Mbappé. The former Borussia Dortmund boss added:
“I don’t know, I have to think, I have to sleep. I will make a decision. We have training at 11 am, we will talk about the match with the group. I’ll see if I talk about this or if I do it individually. It will depend on my night’s sleep too!”
Do you think Mbappe should be punished for his outburst against manager Tuchel?
