Kylian Mbappe said that he spoke with Liverpool before rejecting Real Madrid and deciding to stay at Paris Saint-Germain until 2025.
Kylian Mbappe ultimately decided on his future last week, rejecting Real Madrid’s offers in favor of staying in Paris after a long saga.
Real, who missed out on signing him last summer, had been optimistic for some time that a deal might be struck, but they weren’t the only team interested in luring the forward away from PSG. Mbappe said in an interview with The Times that he has also had conversations with Liverpool.
“We exchanged a few words, but not too much. We had a brief discussion, “he said.
Mbappe also said that he spoke with the Reds prior to his original transfer to PSG in 2017, and that his mum admires the club.
“I spoke with Liverpool because it is my mother’s favorite team. I’m not sure why, but you’ll have to ask her! It’s a good club, and we’ve known them for five years. I met them when I was in Monaco. It is a large club”, he continued.
“Of course, in the end, it was between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.”
Despite initial conversations, Liverpool’s chances of financing a deal for Mbappe are slim, despite his assertion that money does not motivate him.
“When people talk to me, I always bring up football, titles, and big games. I never discuss money”, he asserted.
“People are free to discuss whatever they wish. But everybody who knows me knows that when I spoke to Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain, I never mentioned money.
“Not once. Nasser and I never discussed money. My lawyer did it for a few minutes, as did my mother. Not me, though. I mentioned sports because I’m on the field and I don’t keep track of money. I’m not bothered. I’m here to win championships, to prove that I’m the best, and to be happy, which I am right now.”
