Luis Diaz of Liverpool and Dejan Kulusevski of Tottenham have both proven to be outstanding January signings – but who was a better signing for their respective clubs this season?

Spurs were interested in signing Diaz from Porto, but their interest was noticed by Liverpool, who acted quickly and signed him for £37.5 million.

The Colombian international has made an immediate impression on Liverpool fans, dazzled by his tremendous flair and technique.

In England, he’s already won two titles following Man of the Match performances in the FA Cup and League Cup finals, and he’s expected to play in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

After missing out on Diaz, Antonio Conte’s team replied by bringing in Kulusevski on loan from Juventus.

The 22-year-old has also made an immediate impact in England, assisting Tottenham to their first top-four finish in three years.

Conte remarked earlier this month, “We knew [Diaz] was a fantastic player. I believe [managing director of football Fabio] Paratici attempted to see if he could sign him, but we bought Kulusevski to see whether he could fit into our team, just like we did with Rodrigo Bentancur.

“It’s critical to try to get an important player because you know a top player will boost your team and the quality of your squad. If you want to win something, you’ll need top-tier players, not middle-tier guys.”
