Manchester City defender Kyle Walker made headlines after taking national teammate Bukayo Saka to task on the incredible winning streak of Arsenal this season.
The Citizens defender jokingly asked Saka when his team, Arsenal, will “stop winning” Premier League games this season.
It was a brief funny but awkward moment as England’s 26-man squad selected for the World Cup arrived at the national side’s base at St George’s Park ahead of their flight to Qatar.
With cameras everywhere capturing the talks and pleasantries as the team arrived at St George’s Park, Kyle Walker’s question to Saka slipped into the spotlight.
The two England internationals linked up for the first time after the UEFA Nations League Group stages game, and Kyle Walker held his nerves to throw the awkward question on the Arsenal winger.
Walker could be seen sitting down when Saka came over to greet him.
Looking straight at Bukayo Saka’s face, the City right-back asked: ‘Are you guys [Arsenal] going to stop winning?’
Saka simply laughed off the question and replied, ”Don’t worry about that now! You feeling good?’.
Walker then smiled and nodded before Saka went to greet other teammates.
Walker’s query comes after Manchester City had lost their pace and momentum in the Premier League title race, while Arsenal continued to fly high, dismantling big and small opponents at ease.
Arsenal has gone into the World Cup break with a comfortable gap at the top of the Premier League table.
The Gunners are now five points clear of the top of the table after Manchester City suffered a surprise home defeat to the less-fancied Thomas Frank’s Brentford.
Bees striker Ivan Toney – who was controversially left out of Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad – struck twice in the first and second half to condemn Manchester City to their second defeat of the season.
Arsenal then went on to beat Wolves and increase their lead on the table. A second-half brace by team captain Martin Odegaard is all the Gunners needed to extend their lead on the table to five points.
The win means Arsenal will lead the Premier League table for the first time in fifteen years till late December when Premier League action returns on December 26 after the World Cup.
Is Manchester City off the title race?
It will be too early to conclude that Manchester City are off the Premier League title race with only 15 matches played and five points margin from Arsenal.
Manchester City, who are among the top favorites to win the league, can bounce back and defend the title they won last year
Can Arsenal win the 2022/23 Premier League title?
When the season began, Arsenal were tipped to contend for a top-four finish. As things stand, the Gunners are legitimate title contenders.
Mikel Arteta has done an incredible job with the team, maintaining an unbeaten record since their 3-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The Gunners sailed through other top rivals, securing all three points against Liverpool, and Tottenham, including a win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
They can win the Premier League title if they continue with their current Premier League form.
