Karim Benzema looked to have reacted to Lionel Messi’s The Best FIFA player award win by putting out a puzzling message on his instagram account.
Benzema finished second in the ranking, in spite of his gallant performances in the UEFA Champions League for Real Madrid last season.
The Real Madrid forward was behind Messi and ahead of compatriot Kylian Mbappe. Benzema was not present at the award ceremony conducted on Monday in Paris.
The response of Karim Benzema
Karim Benzema posted a short video on Instagram immediately after Messi won the FIFA The Best Award and in the video a man can be heard speaking, in French, saying “Liar, yes, you liar”.
The video was followed up by the words “good night”.
It’s no certain why he posted such a puzzling message, but FIFA turning a blind eye on his performances for the year 2022 might be the reason.
After having a remarkable year all round for the White Angels, he crowned it up with the Ballon D’or in October 2022.
Karim Benzema’s excellent 2021/22 season saw him lift the Santiago Bernabeu side to a Champions League and La Liga triumph. Real Madrid, due to the double success recorded in 2022 achieved that feat for the third time in their history.
He scored mind-boggling goals and defining strikes that gave Real Madrid the victory against Paris Saint Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City before defeating Liverpool in the final.
The Frenchman came third behind Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappe in the previous season golden shoe race as he scored an wholesome twenty-seven (27) goals across the campaign.
Benzema couldn’t get his 2022/23 footballing season on the road nicely as it was marred with a number of injuries which also dashed his hopes of being at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Lionel Messi won the award strongly because of his nation’s success at the FIFA World Cup where he scored seven (7) goals as Argentina achieved greatness ending their thirty-six (36) year wait for the trophy as they defeated France on penalties.
Many have known the French attacker in previous times to put out puzzling thoughts on his social media accounts.
Didier Deschamps and Benzema’s issues
And in the midst of the rife permutations towards the end of the mundial that he could return to make an appearance in Didier Deschamps’s World Cup team since his slot was still vacant, he posted a picture with the caption “it doesn’t interest me”.
Benzema was sent home from the World Cup having been the architect of his injury a day before the tournament started, according to reports.
Meanwhile, he returned in time from his injury which ignited rumors that it was another reason for the uneasy rapport between him and the manager of France.
For several years Benzema was not invited to the national team of France as he was embroiled in a situation of blackmail that occured during his younger years in his footballing career.
