Karim Benzema has emerged as Real Madrid’s second-all-time highest goal-scorer after he bagged a brace in Real Madrid’s 4-0 victory over Elche.
The 35-year-old helped Real Madrid secure a crucial victory over Elche at the Santiago Bernabeu to keep the pressure on league leaders Barcelona.
Asensio opened the scoring for the La Liga and European champions before Karim Benzema doubled the lead in the 31st minute after converting a spot kick.
In the 45th minute, Karim Benzema struck again through another spot kick to complete his first-half brace.
His brace has now seen the Ballon d’Or winner surge up on Real Madrid’s all-time highest-scorers chart.
He has now displaced Raul Gonzalez, who has 228 goals from second place on the chart.
The Lyon-born French star now has 228 goals – one better than Raul Gonzalez.
However, he is still miles below Cristiano Ronaldo, who is the club’s all-time highest scorer with 450 goals.
