The manager of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has noted that the Premier League game between his team and Manchester City would not decide who would win the league title.

On Sunday, April 10, at 16:30, Liverpool will visit the Etihad Stadium for the club’s 31st game of the season. The game has been the most talked about fixture in the league this year because it is between the top two teams in the league.

Currently, Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions, are leading the league table with 73 points in 30 games. They garnered these points after recording 23 league wins, four draws, and three defeats.

On the other hand, Liverpool are currently occupying the second spot on the league table with 72 points in 30 games. Jurgen Klopp and his boys garnered the points after recording 22 wins, six draws, and two defeats.

Based on the current standing of the league table, most football enthusiasts believe that the winner in the league game between Manchester City and Liverpool could end up as the champions of the league this season.

For instance, if Liverpool manage to beat Manchester City on Sunday, Liverpool would top the league table with 75 points in 31 games, two points above Manchester City. But if City manages to beat Liverpool, the reigning Premier League champions would continue to lead the league table but this time around with 76 points in 31 games, four points above Liverpool.

The good news for Pep Guardiola and his team is that a draw is a fair result for City. If the game ended in a draw, City would remain the league leaders with a point above coach Jurgen Klopp and his boys.

The interesting part is that both Manchester City and Liverpool won their UEFA Champions League quarter-final games on Tuesday, April 5, barely five days to the Super Sunday.

Recall that Liverpool traveled to Portugal to take on Benfica on Tuesday and defeated the Portuguese side 3-1 away from home.

On the other hand, Manchester City hosted Spanish La Liga reigning champions, Atletico Madrid at the Etihad Stadium and defeated their visitors 1-0 to go into the weekend with a winning mentality.

Hence, it is expected to be an interesting encounter that could give the followers of the league a clearer idea of the club that might emerge champions of the league this season.

Manchester City vs Liverpool is not a title decider according to Coach Jurgen Klopp:

Coach Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool and coach Pep Guardiola of Manchester City.

Coach Jurgen Klopp does not think Liverpool’s potential win over Manchester City on Sunday would be enough to hand him and his team the league title.

“If we win against Man City, which is already difficult enough, I think no one would think: ‘That’s it, it is decided.’ That is because of the quality of the opponent,” Jurgen Klopp said after his team’s 3-1 win over Benfica on Tuesday. “We play now against the best team in the world, but we will give it a try anyway. That is what we must do.

“So what we did in the last few months, six, seven, or eight months since the season started we created a basis. We are in the quarter-final, the semi-final, and the further you go in competitions the harder it gets. That’s, unfortunately, the truth.”

The German tactician insisted that the only way for Liverpool to win the league is to win all their remaining league games which he said could be a tough task to accomplish.

Klopp said: “You barely reach a final and face a team where you win 8-0. The Chelsea final was in with credibly intense, with two top-class sides and that’s how all the games will be from now on. Since late December it was clear if we want to win something we had better win all our games. This is not realistic we know, but that’s why we take it game by game.

“Then maybe it is a little bit more possible. But it will be really tough. Yes, everyone knows about the importance of the next game, but after this game, there will ll be other games in other competitions but also in the Premier League as well.

“If you cannot be first you want to be second, if you are close then you want to overtake. We will give it a proper try.”

After the Manchester City Premier League game against Liverpool, the two teams will have seven more league games to play before the 2021-2022 Premier League season ends.
