Julian Nagelsmann and Paris Saint Germain’s discussion over a potential transfer to become the club’s new head coach has reportedly collapsed.

The German tactician has been out of employment since the middle of March during the International break when Bayern Munich decided to fire him and appointed Thomas Tuchel.

Since then, the former RB Leipzig head coach has been strongly linked with several job alternatives but was most lately linked to become Christophe Galtier’s replacement at Paris Saint Germain.

The bad news for Nagelsmann is that he will not be hired as PSG’s new manager.

He had been in lengthy negotiations with the French club this past week to replace Galtier as a manager in the French capital, but the club ultimately decided not to employ him because of disagreements over certain factors he had brought up.

Many people are surprised by the breakdown of these negotiations, given Nagelsmann’s stellar resume and the intense interest from the French powerhouse.

In recent years, Julian Nagelsmann has emerged as one of the coaching world’s most promising young minds.

Several of the world’s most prestigious football clubs expressed interest in him after he led RB Leipzig to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League and multiple top-four finishes in the Bundesliga.

Nagelsmann, at just 34 years old, is a highly sought-after managerial potential thanks to his proven tactical genius and superb aptitude for nurturing young players.

However, despite guiding PSG to their 11th historic Ligue 1 victory, the French powerhouse decided to part ways with Christophe Galtier at the end of the season due to the club’s disappointing European campaign.

The fact that Bayern, still managed by Nagelsmann, eliminated PSG from the UEFA Champions League in the round of 16 last season added fuel to the fire of the Parisians’ discontent with Galtier.

Even though Galtier is still nominally under contract with the Ligue 1 champions, the club’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the PSG board are aggressively looking for a replacement.

Christophe Galtier’s contract with PSG

The 55-year-old joined the French powerhouse from OGC Nice in the summer of 2022 when he put pen to paper on a two years deal, which saw him earn a whopping amount of €665,000 per month.

Christophe Galtier has also been linked with a move to West Ham United. The English club expressed interest in hiring him but the Europa Conference League champions have decided to keep David Moyes as their Head Coach.

It is unclear who will succeed Galtier, but PSG hope to make their decision on a new manager before the end of next week.

What’s next for Christophe Galtier?

SSC Napoli considered hiring Galtier as their new manager to replace Luciano Spalletti, who is taking a well-deserved break after leading Napoli to their first Scudetto in almost 30 years but ultimately settled for Rudi Garcia instead.

However, the Frenchman will be on the lookout for a managerial job at a European club.

Nagelsmann’s hunt for a new team goes on. He has been unemployed for three months at this point.

Maybe, as he implied initially, he’ll need a break from work before starting something new. For the time being, it appears that Nagelsmann is patiently waiting for the proper opportunity.

According to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, PSG are already in touch with another manager after their discussion with Julian Nagelsmann collapsed.
