Julian Nagelsmann will replace Hansi Flick as Bayern Munich’s manager at the end of the 2020-2021 season according to statements from both Bayern and RB Leipzig.

The reigning German Bundesliga champions announced on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, that the 33-year-old German technician has been confirmed as the replacement for the outgoing coach of the club.

Bayern Munich’s outgoing coach, Hansi Flick announced earlier in the month that he has told the club that he would terminate his contract at the end of the season. After a bit of back and forth, Bayern Munich agreed to terminate the contract of the German coach that won treble for the club last season.

Afterward, the club began to negotiate with Julian Nagelsmann who took RB Leipzig to the semi-final stage of the UEFA Champions League last season and has lead Leipzig to the second spot of this season’s German Bundesliga.

In a statement published on the official website of the club, Bayern announced that Julian Nagelsmann has signed a five-year contract with the club which would keep him at the club until 30 June 2026.

According to a statement from RB Leipzig, Nagelsmann would officially resume his duties as Bayern Munich coach on July 1, 2021.

Bayern Munich president, Herbert Hainer said: “I would like to express my thanks to Hansi Flick on behalf of FC Bayern. He took over our team at a difficult time in 2019 and went on to win six trophies, with the seventh hopefully to follow. He will always have a place in FC Bayern’s history books. We wish him all the best for his future.”

While Bayern Munich outgoing coach Hansi Flick said: “The last two years will be unforgettable for me. The emotions, the wins, the titles, but also the day-to-day work on the pitch have been a lot of fun for me – it’s been an amazing time. Success can only be achieved together!

“A coach is nothing without his team, and I was lucky enough to have fantastic players here in Munich and staff and a coaching team who did incredible work. Thanks, guys, and thanks, Kathleen! Particular thanks also go to president Herbert Hainer, along with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Oliver Kahn, Hasan Salihamidzic, and the entire executive board, who allowed me to coach this magnificent team.

“One tinge of sadness remains: that we could not celebrate the great successes during this period with the fans. I’ve missed you in every match. I wish the FC Bayern family only the very best for the future. It is not a cliché when I say: it’s been a great honor for me.”
