Veteran coach Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in signing Leicester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho if he is not able to sign Tammy Abraham from Chelsea this summer.
Mourinho is currently the coach of Italian Serie A club Roma and he has been very busy in the transfer market to solidify his team ahead of the 2021-2022 season.
Since he noticed that Tammy Abraham is not settled at Chelsea, Jose Mourinho has been hunting to acquire the signature of the out-of-favor England international.
Jose Mourinho’s Roma had already agreed to a £34 million deal with Chelsea to sign Abraham. However, since the striker still has a bidding contract with the Premier League club, the London-based club must get the consent of the 23-year-old striker before the deal can scale through.
Reports are suggesting that Tammy is considering staying at Chelsea despite how difficult it might be for him to get regular playing time at the club. Arsenal are also very interested in according to reports. Hence, he has the option to switch from Chelsea to Arsenal.
The English striker performed so well during pre-season but his brilliant performance seems not to be enough for coach Thomas Tuchel who has already signed a more proven striker, Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan.
Recently, when coach Tuchel was asked about the fate of Abraham at Chelsea, the coach admitted that it might be his fault that the English striker has not been enjoying regular game time.
Tuchel said: “Tammy is right now in the squad. He did some good preparation matches.
“He was clearly not happy with the last half a year and maybe he has reason also not to be happy and maybe it was also my fault not to push him, not to trust him on the same level I maybe trusted other players.
“I can understand that he wants more minutes. So the decision will be ‘how do we plan, what are Tammy’s plans, does he fight his way back into the team from the position where he ended last season, or does he want to change the club to have the chance of being a regular starter?'”
As it stands, if Tammy Abraham fails to switch to Roma contrary to the expectation of Jose Mourinho, his next option is Kelechi Iheanacho who is currently enjoying his game at Leicester City.

Roma might exploit Iheanacho’s inability to play as regularly as expected at Leicester City. But it might be difficult for him to leave a team like Leicester that have more chances to win major titles for Roma that finished 7th last season.
Recall that Iheanacho scored the only goal that gave Leicester City the Community Shield title against his former club, Manchester City.
With this and the potential of Leicester City, it might be difficult for Jose Mourinho himself to lure the Nigerian striker to Italian Serie A this summer.
