Jose Mourinho lambasted Daniele Chiffi after the Italian referee gave Roma defender Mehmet Zeki Celik his marching orders six minutes into additional time at the culmination of a Serie A 1-1 draw at U-Power Stadium.

The former Manchester United manager also received a yellow card in the encounter for remonstrating.

In a post match presser after the 1-1 draw with Monza, Mourinho shockingly revealed that he had been wearing a microphone to “protect” himself.

The 2022/23 season was a really heated season in the dugout for the Portuguese who was handed three cards for disputes with referees during the season.

One of those matching orders which he received was from Daniele Chiffi in a 1-0 loss against Atalanta on the 18th of September 2022.

AS Roma ended the 2022/23 Serie A campaign in 6th position and they were runners up in the Europa League.

They lost embarrassingly 4-1 on penalties to Sevilla, after playing out a 1-1 draw with the Spanish side during regulation time and extra time.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho was also punished by UEFA for his wrongdoing after their Europa League final loss to Sevilla.

The 60-year-old went into a car pack at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary to haul insults at Anthony Taylor after he felt aggrieved over some questionable calls in the encounter.

UEFA announced on the 21st of June, 2023 that Mourinho would be suspended for the next four UEFA competition matches “for directing abusive language at a match official.”

Mourinho lashed the European football governing body and he expressed that the conditions which he “strongly believed in when he joined are no longer standing”.

In a reactionary letter sent to UEFA, the 2-time Champions League winner wrote:

“Dear Mr. Boban, in thanking you for the invitation you extended to me to be a member of the UEFA Football Board, I regret to inform you that, effective immediately, I will be renouncing my participation in this group.

“The conditions which I so strongly believed in when I joined are no longer standing and I felt the obligation to take this decision.

“I kindly ask that you also communicate my decision to the President Mr. Aleksander Čeferin.

“Kind regards, Jose Mourinho”

The new Serie A season is scheduled to commence on the weekend of the 19th/20th of August 2023.

It appears Jose Mourinho hasn’t left his former overly passionate cum erratic behavior that he displays on the touchline and that has resulted in him constantly receiving punishments for his actions.

Mourinho has been linked with a potential move to Saudi Arabia but it appears like he might be remaining in Rome for the upcoming season.
