Jesse Lingard has taken to Twitter to clarify that he was not abused during Manchester United vs Liverpool Premier League game on Sunday, October 24, 2021.
Jesse Lingard was one of the unused substitutes in the Premier League game which ended 0-5 at Old Trafford in favor of Liverpool.
In the second half of the game when Manchester United were already four goals down, Lingard was asked to warm up in preparation to be introduced into the game.
When he was doing that, the English attacking midfielder who can also play as a winger decided to hold the corner flag while he watched events unfold on the pitch.
At that point, every Manchester United supporter at Old Trafford was furious with the humiliating scoreline. As tension was brewing on the pitch, the tense moment could be felt around the stadium.
Most supporters of the club were practically quiet as they await a miracle to happen, while some of the fans decided to boo United’s players.
An irate Manchester United fan close to where Jesse Lingard was standing began to yell at the English player which initially sounded like an attack against the footballer.
After the 5-0 defeat, Jesse Lingard took to Twitter to explain that he was not abused. He revealed that the fan told him to work harder and he reminded the fan that he was not on the pitch.
Lingard wrote: “It wasn’t abused! he said “work harder” like I’m not already doing that day in day out! and i said “I’m not even on the pitch” end of!!

Aside from Jesse Lingard, Cristiano Ronaldo was pressured
Before Jesse Lingard was asked to work hard during the Premier League game between Manchester United and Liverpool, Cristiano Ronaldo lost his cool in the game.
Towards the end of the first half, Ronaldo was on the verge of scoring a goal but the ball bounced on Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson. When the ball bounced off the goalkeeper, Liverpool’s Curtis Jones took control of the ball and Ronaldo continued to charge for it.
Ronaldo who was frustrated that his team was 3 goals down then, got so frustrated that Jones was holding on to the ball for too long and decided to aggressively kick the ball while Jones was lying on it.
His action propelled other Liverpool players to go after Ronaldo before Bruno Fernandes intervened and settled the rift.
All Cristiano got from the challenge was a yellow card and many believed that the 36-year-old Portuguese football icon deserved to be red-carded.

After the game, Ronaldo took to his Instagram page to blame himself and the rest of his teammates over the humiliating 5-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool.
The football star wrote: “Sometimes the result is not the one we fight for. Sometimes the score is not the one we want. And this is on us, only on us, because there’s no one else to blame,” the Portugal star wrote in an Instagram post.
“Our fans were, once again, amazing in their constant support. They deserve better than this, much better, and it’s up to us to deliver.
“The time is now!”
