Jack Grealish has revealed Copenhagen’s goalkeeper joked that Erling Haaland is ‘not human’ during Manchester City’s massive Champions League victory at the Etihad.
On Wednesday night, Haaland continued his incredible run by scoring twice more as Man City blasted Copenhagen of Denmark 5-0.
Before being substituted at halftime, the 22-year-old, who has already scored 19 goals in his first 12 games for Pep Guardiola’s team, appeared to be heading for his third hat-trick of the year.
“To be honest, it’s unbelievable”, remarked England forward Grealish of Haaland. “I have never in my life seen anything like it.
“The keeper [Kamil Grabara of Copenhagen] said something to me as I was walking back. He said, ‘he’s not human!’ I said ‘you’re telling me?’ Hopefully he can carry on this form and take us to glory.”
In Manchester City’s third Champions League match of the season, Haaland scored twice in the first 32 minutes, and Copenhagen trailed 3-0 at the break thanks to an own goal by Davit Khocholava.
In the second half, Riyad Mahrez and Julian Alvarez both scored a goal each as City easily won to maintain their lead in Group G of the Champions League.
Grealish threw in: “I loved it. Playing in the Champions League at the Etihad is always great. Three wins out of three to top the group. It was a great night. I’m loving it.”
“My last three or four games I feel back to myself. I am playing more with that freedom and confidence. It would help if I got on the scoresheet, I was desperate tonight, but it’s all about enjoying it and winning.”
“I’ve played a lot of games recently so I’m thankful to the manager for that. I’m playing with a smile on my face and feel like I’m settling in now.”
After his Manchester City team easily defeated Copenhagen and maintained their outstanding start to the season, Guardiola was all praise for his team.
Even though they are still in second place in the Premier League, one point behind the hotly favored Arsenal, Man City is the only English side that has yet to be defeated this year.
Guardiola said: “We are consistent and fighting for everything. After we won the derby 6-3 we had a lot of confidence so great to play the way we played.”
“The result was excellent but I’m really impressed the way we attacked. I’m really, really satisfied and again compliments to the players.
“We played really good in all departments. We were really focused. And many players played at a high level. Everyone has to perform well to help the team and win game-by-game.”
