Pep Guardiola has affirmed that it is difficult to win four consecutive league titles, as his Manchester City side continue their hunt for an unprecedented fourth Premier League crown.

Guardiola reeled out several legendary managers, who have coached in the English top-flight division but couldn’t achieve such a feat.

He mentioned arguably the greatest manager ever, Sir Alex Ferguson, who took charge of Manchester United from 1986 – 2013.

Ferguson won three successive league titles with the Red Devils on two occasions (1999 – 2001) and (2007 – 2009), however, he couldn’t win the title in four consecutive seasons.

Pep Guardiola also listed Arsene Wenger, who won three league titles with Arsenal (1997/98, 2001/02, and 2003/04), but the Frenchman also couldn’t guide the Gunners to the heights of four league crowns in a row.

The Spaniard also mentioned Jose Mourinho, who has taken charge of three English clubs – Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur so far in his lengthy career, but was most successful with the Blues.

Mourinho has won the Premier League titles on 3 occasions, doing it in back-to-back fashion in 2004/05 and 2005/06.

Jose Mourinho won his last English Premier League title in 2014 with Chelsea, but like the other names mentioned, he hasn’t led a side to win it four times consecutively.

Pep Guardiola On The Verge Of Making Premier League History with Manchester City

Pep Guardiola and Manchester City are on the brink of making history, with two league games remaining for his team this campaign.

The Cityzens visit North London to play Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 (20:00), before culminating the campaign with a home fixture against West Ham United on Sunday, May 19, 2024.

If Manchester City win both games, they will be crowned champions, irrespective of what Arsenal do in their final game of the season against Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

In the eventuality of the Cityzens winning both matches, they will end the season with 91 points, while Mikel Arteta’s side will end the campaign with 89 points.

Guardiola Lists Some Top Managers, Who Didn’t Win Four Consecutive English Top-tier League Titles

Speaking in a news presser on Monday, May 13, 2024, Pep Guardiola stressed how difficult it is to win 4 league titles in a row, seeing that no team has done so in the past.

He said: “In the beginning of the season, we didn’t think about the four Premier Leagues.

“If we are in February, March, April and we are still there, we can still do it, after that ignites something In all our heads that says guys no team has done it. That shows you how hard it is.

“Liverpool in the 1980s, Sir Alex Ferguson’s United in the 1990s, Chelsea with [Roman] Abramovich and Jose [Mourinho], and Arsenal with [Arsene] Wenger didn’t do it, so if it’s not been done it’s difficult. It’s as simple as that.”

Some football enthusiasts have expressed that the lack of intense competition in the modern game has been the reason why such a feat could be achieved.

There are also others, who continue to heap on the financial backing that Guardiola has received, indicating that it has been the reason why his side has dominated the English top-tier league.

Others on the opposite end continue to stress how tactically sound and brilliant Pep Guardiola is and have pointed towards it, as the key ingredient to his successes.
