Italian side Inter Milan have reportedly rejected Manchester United’s loan offer for Uruguayan midfielder Matias Vecino. The Inter midfielder has made 17 appearances for Antonio Conte’s side this season, offering two goals and an assist from midfield.

Gazzetta Dello Sport had reported that United are tracking the Inter man, amid suggestions that Antonio Conte would be willing to sell the player for roughly €20million. The Uruguayan midfielder has been left out of Conte’s last three starting teams for Inter and has also been linked to Everton.

The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the club this winter, especially because of Christian Eriksen’s imminent arrival. Once the Danish international does join, it is expected that Inter will allow Vecino to leave. He had been linked with moving to Tottenham Hotspur in exchange for Eriksen, but it appears as though Spurs had no interest in such a deal.

And according to Sky in Italy, United and Inter have been unable to agree on a deal for the Uruguayan. The reports added that Inter are now in talks over a possible exchange deal which would see Vecino join Napoli and Brazilian midfielder Allan head in the opposite direction.

United remain in the market for a midfielder with both Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay on the sidelines and as their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes drags on, the club has turned to Vecino. United and Sporting are locked in negotiations over Fernandes but are yet to actually strike a deal. With just over a week remaining in the transfer window, the Red Devils appear to be considering alternatives.

Meanwhile, according to super agent Jorge Mendes,  Bruno Fernandes may remain at Sporting Lisbon until the summer. The two clubs were understood to be close to agreeing a deal, but Sporting have since increased the overall asking price to £68m.
