Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag gave a blunt reply when asked of Man United’s top-four chances after the Chelsea loss.
A late dramatic comeback, inspired by Cole Palmer’s late double, saw United stumble to a shock a 4-3 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea had raced into the lead early in the first half when Conor Gallagher fired the Blues in front just four minutes into the game.
Cole Palmer added to the lead, scoring from the spot in the 19th minute to make it 2-0.
After going down by two goals, Manchester United fought back through Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes to draw the game level before the break.
Seven minutes after the hour mark, Manchester United raced into the front with Garnacho’s second of the night.
United were edging close to victory before a dramatic late comeback by Chelsea saw the Blues turn the game around.
Dalot’s late challenge on Noni Madueke was adjudged a penalty, and Cole Palmer converted it with a cool finish wrong-footing Andre Onana to make it 3-3.
The Manchester City academy graduate completed the turnaround with a hat-trick after his late strike deflected off Scott McTominay into the net.
A distraught Erik ten Hag was unfazed with the performance of his players after the match while also blasting the late penalty awarded to Chelsea
“But, you cannot give it away like we did and we have to manage this game better.
”It is a team performance, you can point to one of the players but it’s about a team performance.
”When it gets chaotic you have to deal with it as a team and we made the wrong decisions and we didn’t help out as a team.
‘Out of possession we made bad decision – a lack of concentration.
”Also, I think lucky at the end with the penalty situation, questionable and very soft but we have to do better,” he said in post-match press conference.
Erik ten Hag will hope to return the team winning ways when they take on Liverpool in the next fixture at the weekend.
