During the preseason last summer Real Madrid faced Atletico Madrid in the International Champions Cup at the MetLife Stadium.

It was just a pre-season tournament but both clubs treated the game with utmost importance as it was more than just a friendly match for the two rivals. Atletico was out to prove a point in which was duly passed along as they were up 5-0 by halftime. Shocking for many to see, after returning from the break Atletico made it 6-0 within minutes of returning.

The match  ended 7-3 with Real managing to hit the back of the net with three late consolation goals. The shocking results had a big impact on Casemiro’s family holiday as he decided to cut the vacay short to return to work. The Brazilian international was enjoying a break with his family after helping Brazil win the 2019 Copa America.

Unfortunately, the much-needed vacation was cut short and the midfielder revealed this broke his daughter’s heart, after seeing his side get thrashed in a friendly to Atletico.

Speaking on the incident the 27-year-old said, ”I saw my team lose 7-3 in the preseason against Atlético Madrid, and I had decided that I couldn’t continue my vacation & go to Disney World.”

”So I told my daughter that Dad has a problem at work, and I have to cancel the vacation. That’s the reason why I returned earlier than expected.”

His early return could be attributed to Real Madrid’s current place on the La Liga table with the club currently sitting on top of the number one spot. Real are currently 13 points ahead of their Madrid rivals who sot in fourth place.

If Real are able to beat Atletico during this summers preseason match then Casemiro will finally get to take his daughter to Disney World. But knowing Diego Simeone’s men they will probably cause another upset in the next friendly.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid will face Manchester City in their first leg of Champions League on February 26 at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
