The highest-earning England managers in history have been revealed following the appointment of German tactician Thomas Tuchel as Three Lions boss.

Roy Hodgson, who took charge of the Euro 2020 and 2024 runner-up, is the 5th highest earner in England’s history, with the 77-year-old said to have been paid £3.5 million yearly between 2016 and 2016.

Late Swedish manager Sven Goran-Eriksson is 4th in the rankings, as he earned £4.5 million annually as boss of England between 2001 and 2006.

Gareth Southgate Is One Of The Highest Earning Managers In England’s History

Occupying the 3rd spot is Gareth Southgate, with the previous permanent manager of England pocketing £5 million annually.

Southgate is arguably the 2nd most successful manager in England’s history, having guided them to the final of the 2020 and 2024 UEFA European Championship.

The 54-year-old also led the Three Lions to the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, albeit losing the third-place final to Belgium.

Gareth Southgate managed England for 8 years (2016-2024), and he tutored several top names, including Harry Kane, Wayne Rooney, Jordan Henderson, and Jude Bellingham, amongst others.

Southgate relinquished his position as boss of England on July 16, 2024, following the European nation’s loss to Spain, as he felt he couldn’t guide the country past the stage where he led them.

Thomas Tuchel Is The 2nd Highest Earning Manager In The History Of England

Newly appointed Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel is next on the list and he will earn an annual salary of £6 million.

Tuchel was confirmed as manager of England on October 16, 2024, with the German tactician penning a one-and-a-half-year deal with the country.

Thomas Tuchel is currently contracted to England until July 2026 and he will commence his job as manager in January 2025.

The former Chelsea boss will be hoping to achieve success with England, having shared that his target is to qualify the country for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and to win the tournament.

The England job will be Tuchel’s first taste at management internationally, and he will be hoping to achieve success with the country and make his mark on the international front.

Fabio Capello Leads The Top 5 List Of The Highest Earning Managers In The History Of England

Italian former professional football manager Fabio Capello is the highest-earning manager in the history of England.

Capello was paid £6.7 million yearly during his spell as Three Lions gaffer between 2007 and 2012 despite not achieving much with the country.

Fascinatingly, 3 of the 5 coaches in the rankings are the only non-English managers to have tutored the country.

Sven Goran-Eriksson, Fabio Capello, and Thomas Tuchel are the only managers who are not of English origin to have taken charge of England.
