Harvey Barnes will not feature again for Newcastle United for the rest of 2023 due to a foot injury, Eddie Howe has revealed.

Harvey Barnes, 25, got injured just 12 minutes into the Sunday Premier League match in which Newcastle thrashed Sheffield United 8-0.

Recall we also reported earlier this week that Eddie Howe stated that he was concerned that the winger might face “months rather than weeks” out and may require surgery.

Speaking on the injury, Howe said: “It’s an injury to a part of the foot just below the toe. I think it’s quite a substantial injury.”

“I won’t go too technical because I’m not qualified to do so but yes it’s a very unusual injury.”

However, it has now been revealed that Harvey Barnes will miss the next three months with an injury underneath his toe – though no surgery is required.

Eddie Howe spoke about Harvey Barnes and the injury he sustained at a conference on Friday ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Burnley.

The Magpies manager said: “We think he’s going to be out for around three months. No surgery required, which is good news, but his foot is now in a boot.”

“It is an injury underneath his toe and he’s now started his recovery,” the Newcastle United manager said about Harvey Barnes.

“I think he’s going to be quite sedate for a period of time because he’s got to rest the toe, he’s got to give it every chance to recover and then we’ll have to build him up slowly, so that’s why it’s the three months.”

He also added: “It’s come at a shocking time for Harvey. He was beginning to find his rhythm. With so many games coming up, it’s a huge blow to lose any player.”

“We have to deal with it, accept it and we wish Harvey Barnes a speedy recovery.”

The Englishman joined Newcastle United for around £38m from his boyhood club Leicester City after they were relegated to the Championship.

Barnes has made seven appearances for Newcastle and only managed to score just one goal since he signed for the Magpies.

The former Leicester City player is set to miss about 20 games for Newcastle across all competitions as the club juggles domestic duties with group-stage fixtures in the Champions League.

Harvey Barnes will also miss both home and away matchups with fellow Group F teams Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, as well as a home match with AC Milan.

Harvey Barnes will also watch his team play from the sidelines as they travel to Old Trafford to face EFL Cup holders Manchester United in the fourth round.

Just like we reported previously, he missed out as Newcastle beat Manchester City 1-0 in the third round on Wednesday to set up the showdown with the Red Devils.

He will also miss as many as 14 Premier League matches which include Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, and Man City.

The £38 Million signing is not the only player with issues, as Eddie Howe is sweating over the fitness of Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson, Sven Botman, and Bruno Guimaraes.

Barnes is a product of the Leicester City academy, which he joined on 8 June 2007 when he was just 9 years old.

The one-capped England international signed a new 4-year contract at Leicester City until 2025 on 19th August 2021, but was relegated with the team in the 2022-23 season.

Following Leicester City’s relegation, he signed for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United on 23rd July, 2023 on a 5-year deal which was worth around £38m.
