Sevilla has reportedly surfaced as a surprise candidate to acquire Harry Winks from Tottenham Hotspur, who no longer desire the midfielder.

At the senior level, Winks has only played for Tottenham Hotspur. He started in their program at the age of five and made his first-team debut in 2014 when he was 18 years old. He has made a total of 203 games for his boyhood club since then.

In recent seasons, his playing time has decreased. Tottenham has been thinking about his future since his contract expires in 2024.

Tottenham has reportedly advised Harry Winks that he needs to start looking for a new club. They are demanding a sum of between £20 million and £25 million to sell him.

Some Premier League clubs have shown interest in the 10-time England international. Newcastle United and Southampton have been named as potential bidders in recent reports.

However, according to The Sun, Winks may be offered a job abroad. According to them, Sevilla is looking into a possible deal.

On his mother’s side, Winks has Spanish grandparents. As a result, a move to La Liga could be intriguing.

The Sun reports that Winks is being pursued by English clubs such as Fulham, Everton, and Southampton. However, due to their concentration on other positions, the latter’s attention is a step behind.

Thomas Delaney, Nemanja Gudelj, Fernando, Joan Jordan, Oliver Torres, and Ivan Rakitic make up Sevilla’s midfield.

They’re all good players, but four of them are in their 30s or older. As a result, even though they all have at least one year left on their contracts, they may need to reconsider their alternatives.

Winks is regarded as a midfielder with the necessary technical ability to play in La Liga. Furthermore, at the age of 26, he would be the newest member of the Sevilla department, although having a wealth of expertise.

Sevilla is fine with having Winks

Indeed, Winks should be nearing the end of his career. To make an impact, he’ll need to get back up to speed with consistent gametime.

He is unlikely to get that at Tottenham, where he is a distant fourth behind Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Oliver Skipp. As a result, Winks – who has started nine Premier League games in each of the last two seasons – may be ready to move on.

Going to Spain for work could be a fantastic decision. With Sevilla, he would also be joining a team that offers Champions League football.

His playing characteristics would be an excellent fit for La Liga. Furthermore, his ancestors should aid in his adaptation.

More English players appear to be emigrating to pursue their dreams. It worked for Roma’s Tammy Abraham and Chris Smalling, as well as Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham (and formerly Jadon Sancho).

Kieran Trippier, Winks’ former Tottenham colleague who is now at Newcastle, also played for Atletico Madrid. As a result, a move to La Liga should be something Winks should consider.

But it all depends on whether Sevilla can solidify their interest.
