Harry Maguire to Remain captain of Manchester United despite the suspended prison sentence hanging on his neck, the manager of the club, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, confirmed this on Saturday.

Recall that the 27-year-old England and Manchester United defender became a subject of controversy in August when he was arrested in Greece and sued for “aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and repeated attempts of bribery”. The Manchester United‘s captain and his two Briton friends were found guilty and given a suspended sentence which would give the footballer the opportunity to continue with his football career provided he doesn’t break any law throughout the duration of his probation.

However, Harry Maguire has insisted that his conscience was clear and didn’t commit the crimes he was said to have committed when he visited Greece with his friends and family after the 2019-2020 season.

To prove his innocence, the captain of Manchester United who became the club’s captain in January 2020, less than five months after joining the club from Leicester City, has started the process of appealing the judgment with the hope that the sentence would be nullified.

The scandal has already cost the Manchester United star the opportunity of representing England national team on September 5 and 8 when the country played Iceland and Denmark in the European Nations League campaign which ended 1-0 in favor of England and 0-0 respectively.

Unlike the head coach of the England National team, Gareth Southgate who allowed the scandal to influence his team’s selection, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the football manager of Manchester United is not ready to allow whatever happened in Greece to influence his operations in the Premier League club.

“He (Harry Maguire) is going to be our captain,” Solskjaer told MUTV. “He’s handled it really well and, of course, I’ll be here to support him.

“We’ll just leave Harry and his people and the process to run. For me, he is a top, an absolute top human being and has always been a positive guy with the right values. So I really hope we can see Harry performing at his best.”

Manchester United ended their 2019-2020 campaign on the 3rd spot of the league table and missed out on winning the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League. They crashed from the two competitions in the semi-finals stage.

Hence, Solskjaer and his boys would be looking forward to bettering their performance in the 2020-2021 Premier League season which has commenced today, September 12. They will kick off their campaign on September 19 against Crystal Palace and the world will be watching to see if Harry Maguire would captain the Red Devils then.
