Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane helped England national team to survive at the hands of Germany on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. His late goal helped the Three Lions to run away from Munich with a point.

On the said date, England faced Germany for their second UEFA Nations League match of the 2022-2023 season. Recall that Hungary stunned England 1-0 in their first outing which condemned them to battle for at least a point in Germany.

During the Nations League game against Germany, Jonas Hofmann scored the opener for Germany in the 50th minute. Afterward, the host continued to press the Three Lions until the last 5 minutes of the game when Harry Kane scored the equalizer in the 88th minute via a spot-kick.

Afterward, both teams couldn’t take the lead until the game ended. Though Germany enjoyed more possession in the game, England had more shots (15) than Germany (10).

Unfortunately for both teams, the result worked for the good of Italy which is currently sitting on the top spot of League A3 with four points in two games. Italy is followed by Hungary with 3 points in two games. While Germany and England are sitting on the third and 4th spots respectively.

After England’s 1-1 draw with Germany, the head coach of England, Gareth Southgate said, “We challenged the players with that – a top team doesn’t go and lose two on the bounce.

“We’ve had some good results at Wembley but we wanted to come away from home and get a good result. It’s so important we bounce back from a disappointing result.”

The equalizer from Harry Kane on June 7, 2022, has made the England international England’s second all-time highest goalscorer.

The 28-year-old Tottenham Hotspur talisman is three goals away from equaling Wayne Rooney’s 53 goals and four goals away from being England’s all-time highest goalscorer.

After Kane helped England to grab a point at the hands of Germany on Tuesday, coach Southgate said: “The fact he has 50 goals will be the center part of the story but his all-round game, the way he led the line, the way he competed, the way he pressed from the front for us today was exceptional.

“His quality to drop deep, I know people say he drops too deep, but you need a player that can come and link the game. He gives us so many options.

“When you had runners past him like Raheem [Sterling], Bukayo [Saka], and Mason [Mount], then that part of his game comes into its own. There are little moments when he takes the ball and relieves the pressure, which you take for granted, but are an important part of his game.”
