Earlier this week, there were speculations that Harry Kane has officially told Tottenham Hotspur that he would like to leave the club this summer. The excuse for that was that he does no longer believe in the direction the club was heading.
However, counter reports claimed that Harry Kane has not asked Spurs to let him go. Amidst that, the chairman of the club, Daniel Levy is reportedly not ready to allow the club’s captain to leave this summer to a rival club.
Kane’s contract with Tottenham is expected to expire in June 2024 but it is getting more likely that the striker who has scored 22 league goals and provided 13 assists in 33 games might not stay at the London club until the contract expires.
Recall that earlier in the year, Harry Kane was quoted as saying that he could only leave Tottenham if the club fail to move in the right direction. The right direction is suspected to mean, winning titles and finishing in the top four.
Unfortunately for the 28-year-old English striker who has been at Tottenham Hotspur from childhood, the club is on the verge of not making it into the top four this season. They had the chance of winning the Carabao Cup this season but they lost the cup final to Manchester City.
Hence, their 13 years wait for a major title continued as even the appointment of Jose Mourinho couldn’t change much at the club until the Portuguese coach was sacked in April 2021.
So far this season, Tottenham have recorded 17 wins, 8 draws, and 11 defeats which earned them 59 points in 36 games. The performance only helped them to remain in the 6th spot. Even if they win their league games against Aston Villa and Leicester City, they would not be able to break into the top four.
The European competition Harry Kane might play in if he remains at Tottenham Hotspur after this season would be the Europa League, a competition Harry Kane would not want to return to at this stage of the competition.
Most of his fans want him to leave Tottenham to a more ambitious club since his astonishing goalscoring ability has not earned him a medal at Tottenham.
Though a counter-report says Harry Kane has not asked Tottenham to let him go, some top clubs in England including Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United have reportedly shown interest in him.
Though a recent statement from Tottenham regarding the future of Harry Kane said the club’s focus is on “finishing the season as strongly as possible” if a club makes the right offer for Kane this summer Levy might have no choice but to allow the England international to leave Spurs.
Just like other clubs, Tottenham Hotspur are struggling financially due to the effect of the coronavirus pandemic. Hence, an offer between 90 to 150 million euros for the striker would be difficult to resist.
Kane will be in action at 18:00 today, May 19, when Aston Villa visit Tottenham Hotspur stadium for the club’s 37th league game of the season. Afterward, the English star and his teammates will have a date with Leicester City.
