Axed Chelsea boss Graham Potter is currently keeping an ear out for Manchester United job according to reports.
Potter, who is keeping a tab on Napoli’s job is also open to the possibility of being considered for the Manchester United position if Erik ten Hag is dismissed, as reported by The Sun.
Despite his difficult stint at Chelsea, Potter’s previous successful tenures at Swansea and Brighton have left a positive impression on the Italians.
The Serie A Champions are interested in speaking to Potter about potentially becoming their new manager, alongside Antonio Conte who is also a contender.
Napoli won the title under the leadership of current Italian national team manager Luciano Spalletti, but their performance have declined since Rudi Garcia took over.
However, there is speculation that Potter could become a potential candidate for Manchester United when Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s team assumes ownership, provided the Red Devils’ prospective owners choose to remove Erik ten Hag from his position.
Sir Dave Brailsford, Ratcliffe’s associate and the face of the takeover, is a fan of Potter and had hoped to bring him to Nice in France.
Recall that Ratcliffe, who is the richest individual in Britain and owner of Ineos, has agreed to a £1.35 billion deal for a 25 percent stake in the club.
Despite experiencing recent delays, the 70-year-old remains hopeful that he will formally arrive at Old Trafford in time for the January transfer window.
Ratcliffe is the lone contender who is seriously considering investing in the Red Devils, as Sheikh Jassim has withdrawn his takeover bid.
Graham Potter’s stint at Chelsea
Potter was picked by Todd Boehly for his forward-thinking and innovative approach to football management and was expected to lead a long-term strategy at Stamford Bridge.
His move from Brighton & Hove Albion was swift, occurring just 24 hours after Tuchel’s departure.
Unfortunately, Graham Potter left Chelsea with the lowest points-per-game record of any Chelsea manager.
The berated former Chelsea boss lost 11 out of 31 games while in charge.
After Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa at home, he was sacked on April 2nd, with the team positioned 11th in the Premier League.
Throughout his tenure at Stamford Bridge, Potter managed to win seven out of 22 league matches, securing seven draws and suffering eight losses.
As a result, Chelsea only accumulated 28 points out of a possible 66.
Manchester United, on the other hand, led by Ten Hag, has had a challenging season this term with their worst league start since 1989, having lost four of their first seven games.
