Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea, has applauded Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for handling a brutal home invasion robbery in the summer.
Just before leaving the Spanish club for Chelsea, the altercation at the Gabon forward’s residence outside of Barcelona resulted in a broken jaw.
Graham Potter, who took over as manager of Chelsea last month, expressed his admiration for the former Arsenal striker.
“He wouldn’t be human if it didn’t affect him,” Potter said.
“We’re here to support but I think the best thing for him is to play football, to put the incident behind him as quickly as possible and feel comfortable and happy. I think he feels that here. He has acted really professionally, I have been really impressed with him.
“[The burglary] was fairly horrific to be honest. You are talking about something that isn’t particularly nice where the family are concerned.
“But I can only act on how he behaves and he has been perfect.”
Aubameyang, 33, who has made three appearances in the Premier League this season for Chelsea, spoke at the time and described the “aggressive cowards” who came into his home, adding: “The feeling that we are no longer safe in our own home is hard to understand and describe, but as a family we will overcome this and stand stronger than ever.”
Wednesday’s Champions League match between Chelsea and AC Milan at Stamford Bridge is Potter’s chance to win after last month’s 1-1 draw with Red Bull Salzburg. Under former manager Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea lost their opening match in the current season’s campaign at Dinamo Zagreb.
What happened to Aubameyang?
A group of hooded thugs stormed into Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Barcelona home early on Monday, August 29, 2022, and then attacked and robbed him.
The incident left the former Arsenal striker, who joined Camp Nou in January, stunned, but La Liga heavyweights reported that the Gabonese striker and his wife were “doing well.”
The Associated Press received a statement, which they reported as follows: “Aubameyang was hit and forced to open a safe where the couple kept jewellery. The attackers allegedly threatened him and his wife with guns and iron bars. Authorities said at least four men entered the player’s home and then escaped in a car.”
Graham Potter On Goalkeeper Choice
Edouard Mendy is not Stamford Bridge’s starting goalkeeper, according to Potter.
When Chelsea plays AC Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday, Kepa Arrizabalaga might continue to start in goal for Chelsea.
The former Brighton boss stated he wasn’t prepared to categorize his preferred goalkeeper.
“I’m in no rush to label anyone one or two or anything like that”, Potter told reporters. “I want to help Edou get fit and ready to play, which he’s done incredibly well so far.
“Then we’ve got two goalkeepers, and in an ideal world, you want football to decide. We’ve got two we really believe in and that’s a really good situation for us.”
A triple injury boost has come to Potter ahead of his team’s Champions League match against AC Milan.
On Wednesday night, Chelsea will host the Serie A winners at Stamford Bridge in an effort to continue their Group E campaign under Potter on a high.
After frustratingly drawing 1-1 at home against RB Salzburg in Potter’s debut game as manager last month, the Blues are sitting at the bottom of the standings with just one point in two games.
