A plane carrying German national team players and coaching staff almost crashed landed on their way back from Iceland on Thursday morning. Recall that they beat Iceland 4-0 in a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday, September 8, 2021.
The win gave the German national team 15 points in 6 games. They are the leaders of Group J, four points above second-placed Armenia.
After the easy victory, all the German national team players and coaching staff boarded Klasjet flight KLJ2703 to return to Germany. Earlier today, the Twitter page of the German team confirmed that the plane made an emergency landing in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Though German authorities did not reveal the reason for the emergency landing, it is suspected that the plane had to find a means to land when the backup generator on the plane developed a fault.
The news of the emergency landing sent panic waves across Germany before the football authorities in the country could confirm the severity of the situation.
Due to the fear the incident generated, the official Twitter page of the German national team had to share a series of tweets to update the family and fans of the team until the safety of all the players and staff on the plane was ascertained.
In the first of the series of tweets the German national team Twitter page shared, the page confirmed that the plane made a “safe stopover in Edinburgh” as a precautionary measure.
Afterward, the handlers of the Twitter page confirmed that everyone onboard the pane was fine. The handlers also confirmed that they were running a safety check on the plane.
While the players and staff of the national team were waiting for the way forward, they had to remain on a plane to maintain their bubble. The Twitter handle of the German national team revealed that the players were served coffee to help them relax while they waited for the way forward.
After about an hour, the handlers of the Twitter page announced that they were expecting a replacement plane to convey the players and staff back to Frankfurt and Munich, Germany which was the initial arrangement before the emergency landing.
Afterward, the page confirmed that the players and staff of the German national team were on board the replacement aircraft to Germany.

The players are expected to return to their various clubs from Frankfurt and Munich to continue with the 2021-2022 club football season.
