The 31-year-old midfielder from the Netherlands just joined Roma on loan from Paris St-Germain.

Medical examinations “confirmed the occurrence of a fracture to the tibia in his right leg,” the Serie A team announced.

Wijnaldum, a Premier League and Champions League champion with Liverpool, has been sidelined by Roma, but they did not specify how long.

Wijnaldum, who was born in Rotterdam and has 86 caps for the Netherlands, will “undergo further assessments in the coming days,” according to the club.

The World Cup, which starts on November 20, has the Netherlands in Group A together with hosts Qatar, Senegal, and Ecuador.

“Following an injury sustained during training this afternoon, Georginio Wijnaldum subsequently underwent medical tests that confirmed the presence of a fracture to the tibia in his right leg,” a Roma statement read. “The player will undergo further assessments in the coming days. FORZA GINI!”

The timing is annoying for the 31-year-old. Following his transfer from Liverpool to PSG, Wijnaldum had trouble getting playing time, making just 18 Ligue 1 starts.

The injury might also make it uncertain whether he will play in the forthcoming World Cup. After the Netherlands missed out on qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, Wijnaldum represented his nation as captain for Euro 2020. He also participated in the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup.

Georginio Wijnaldum Wife

Although Georginio Wijnaldum has been dating Mirella Pereira for a while, they are not yet married. Since 2017, Gini Wijnaldum and Mirella Pereira have been dating.

Beautiful 26-year-old Mirella Pereira was the source of the Dutch footballer’s irrational behavior. Her love of travel is evident in her Instagram profile.

She and Georginio Wijnaldum started traveling to some of the world’s most exotic cities together as soon as he entered her life. Traveling the world with the love of your life is the best feeling in the world, right?

In 2017, Georginio Wijnaldum and Mirella Pereira began dating. However, the speculations that the two were dating started in 2016. Georginio had a committed relationship with his high school sweetheart, Virginia Braaf before he met Pereira.

After a contentious breakup, the football icon eventually discovered this beauty. Fans started to get more interested in him after he made a few appearances with Mirella.

Currently, the two of them share a home in Paris. Although deciding to live together is a significant decision, the two appear to be pleased with one another.

He made his club debut on August 14 in a 1-0 Serie A away victory over Salernitana while playing as a substitute.

Why did Wijnaldum leave Liverpool?

On July 1, 2021, Gini Wijnaldum formally left Liverpool after five years with the team.

The Dutch player joined PSG in France where he reportedly earned £300,000 per week before he went on loan to Roma this summer.

Wijnaldum was on the verge of signing a contract with Barcelona when PSG entered the picture and made him an insane offer to join them which he could not resist.

Many fans believed that when Wijnaldum claimed he would explain why he left Liverpool during the EUROs, he was going to blame FSG for not fulfilling his contract demands.

However, Gini seems to blame the supporters for one of the reasons he left in a recent interview with TimesSport.

Gini claimed in the interview that the online harassment became so severe that “he wanted to quit.”

“When it went bad, I was the player who they blamed – that I wanted to leave”, he revealed after leaving Liverpool last summer.

“On social media, if we lost, I was the one who got the blame. There was a moment when I was like: ‘Wow. If they only knew what I was doing to stay fit and play every game.’ Other players might have said: ‘OK, I am not fit.’

“You get players in their last year who are like: ‘I’m not playing because it is a risk.’ I did the opposite.”
