Fiorentina has announced that they have parted ways with Gennaro Gattuso who they appointed as the manager of the club 23 days ago.
Fiorentina appointed Gennaro Gattuso less than a week after Napoli sacked him for failing to qualify the team for the 2021-2022 UEFA Champions League campaign. He ended the just concluded 2020-2021 season with Napoli on the 5th spot which was not good enough to help him retain his job.
When he got appointed by Fiorentina, the 43-year-old retired Italian defensive midfielder did not discuss in detail the kind of players he wanted to work with at the club. He only had the opportunity to have such a discussion after he has signed the deal with the Serie A side.
Unfortunately for his ambitious plans, the Serie A club rejected the list of players Gennaro Gattuso wanted ahead of the 2021-2022 season because the club felt they could not meet up with the financial obligations such players might attract.
On his part, Gattuso did not want the players the club was ready to buy during this summer transfer window. Hence, they could not reach a compromise over the players they wanted to add to the team.
Due to that, the Italian tactician who was supposed to resume fully with the Italian club on July 1 had to exit the club by mutual consent according to a statement on the club’s official website.
The statement reads: “ACF Fiorentina and Mister Rino Gattuso, by mutual agreement, have decided not to follow up on the previous agreements and therefore not to start the next football season together.
“The Company immediately set to work to identify a technical choice that will guide the Viola team towards the results that Fiorentina and the City of Florence deserve.”
At the time of publishing this report, Gattuso was yet to make an official reaction but Fiorentina have begun to search for another coach that will lead the club during the 2021-2022 season.
Reports in Italy claimed that Fiorentina are already considering the former coach of Lyon, Rudi Garcia as their next option since their plan with Gattuso could not work out. Garcia who is a French tactician is currently available for the job and might not be as demanding as Gattuso.
Also, reports claimed that Claudio Ranieri who is jobless after leaving Sampdoria is seen as another alternative for the vacant position at Fiorentina.
With the exit of the Italian tactician, the possibility of Stuttgart winger Nico Gonzalez joining Fiorentina is very slim since he was a choice of Gattuso for the Italian side.
