Gavi will not complete his new contract signing with Barcelona as a judge in the Catalan city has reportedly suspended his contract.

The 18-year-old center midfielder who is regarded as one of LaLiga’s most promising young players, looked to increase his salary by signing a new contract in 2022.

It was first believed to the league has banned the agreement in January because Barcelona would have exceeded their salary cap with the new first-team player contract.

A judge at the city’s commercial court declared LaLiga’s ruling to be incorrect less than a week later, which caused this position to shift.

By doing so, Gavi was able to renew his contract as a senior team player before the winter transfer window closed and obtain the No. 6 jersey that had previously belonged to Xavi, the current manager of Barcelona.

The scenario has reportedly altered once more, according to the Spanish news outlet Relevo.

Barcelona allegedly filed their petition beyond the deadline and was also a day late for a grace period, which led to the registration being suspended.

Gavi won’t be able to play for the first team, but he will still be able to do so by switching back to his former No. 30 jersey.

Barcelona may be looking to challenge this judgment as the youngster is an integral part of the squad.

The club has been charged with corruption as a result of payments made to two companies owned by José Maria Enriquez Negreira, a former vice-president of the Spanish referees committee.

Barcelona is prohibited from participating in the summer transfer market, according to LaLiga president Javier Tebas, who also stated earlier this month that the Catalan powerhouses must raise £178 million only to comply with the league’s regulations.

The squad might sell some of its key players as a result; Chelsea and Newcastle United of the Premier League are reportedly interested in Raphinha.

When Gavi joined Barcelona in 2015 as an 11-year-old, he quickly advanced through the levels, playing for the under-16s, then Barcelona B before joining the senior team.

In the 2021–22 season, he made 47 appearances across all competitions. He then contributed significantly to the team this year, scoring one goal and setting up the other two in Barcelona’s 3–1 Supercopa de Espaa victory over Real Madrid in January.

Gavi’s performances do not appear to have been negatively impacted by the terms of his contract, with Carles Puyol among those who praised him for two head-first tackles he made on Sunday in their 1-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao.

He is the third-youngest player to score in a match at the 2022 World Cup, behind Pele and Manuel Rosas. He also started each of Spain’s four games in the tournament.

    How Good Is The Spaniard?

Gavi’s abilities as a footballer, such as his dribbling, anticipation, intelligence, vision, passing, first touch, close control, change of pace, and ability to turn quickly to get out of tight spaces and start counterattacks, have earned him comparisons to former Barcelona midfielders Xavi and Andrés Iniesta, according to Graham Hunter of ESPN.
