Barcelona are not having it cool with Spain national team manager Luis de La Fuente after the club’s wonderkid Gavi picked up a gruesome injury in 2024 Euros Qualifiers match against Georgia.
It wasn’t looking good for Gavi just few minutes into the first half as he picked up an apparent leg injury and had to be substituted immediately.
Sources close to the player revealed Gavi must have torn his ACL in what could be a big blow to Barcelona.
According to Relevo, Gavi could not believe it when he was informed he must have torn his ACL due to the injury.
“It can’t be, it can’t be, I have to play!” he said when told of the news in the dressing room,” he said.
Spain national team coach Luis de La Fuente confirmed similar grim prospects when quizzed of Gavi’s Injury after the game.
He said:
“He [Gavi] was broken, shattered, he didn’t understand that this could happen to him.”
Barcelona have been fuming since the report of Gavi’s injury emerged. The club are reportedly unnerved by the decision of Luis de La Fuente to start Gavi against Georgia when the latter played full 90 minutes against Cyprus in the previous game.
As per ESPN, Luis de La Fuente rotated the squad heavily in the match against Georgia. Nine players who started the match against Cyprus were all dropped to the bench. Gavi was among the only two players who de La Fuente started against Georgia after equally featuring against Cyprus.
As per Transfer Live, Barcelona believed De La Fuente should have rested Gavi as well to forestall the devastating injury blow which could see the youngster ruled out of action for several months.
To further deepen Barcelona’s fears of missing the La Masia graduate on a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Gavi was spotted on crutches as he arrived Barcelona after the game for an assessment of the injury.
He could not walked due the injury and had to be supported with crutches.
According to reports, the Gavi could miss the rest of the season for Barcelona if he actually torn his ACL.
Barcelona are yet to confirm an update on the injury at the time of filing this report.
Gavi has made 8 La Liga appearances for Barcelona and has scored two goals. He is an integral part of Xavi Hernandez’s squad. His injury will be a big blow to the club who are pushing to defend the La Liga title and reclaim their European dominance.
