England football manager, Gareth Southgate has revealed that he won’t be too loyal to the English players ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
This is coming after his team has had a not too smooth start at the current UEFA Nations League as they lost their first game against Hungary and drew 1-1 with Germany in their second game.
Out of the 14 players that were selected during the game against Germany, it was only West Ham’s player, Jarrod Bowen that wasn’t part of the England team at the Euro 2020. While some of them were present at the 2018 World Cup and they played against Croatia in the semi-final of the tournament.
Even though the English manager wants his team to continue at a top form, he has stated that he’s not going to be too loyal to his best players.
“No. We’re open-minded. Bukayo (Saka) came out of the pack and we didn’t hesitate to put Jude (Bellingham) into the fray, which was an incredible experience for him”, said Southgate in a post-match interview after the 1-1 draw with Germany on Wednesday.
Gareth Southgate added; “So many of them, when picking the team, you look at it and they’ve been to a World Cup semi-final and Euros final.
“So it’s not only the quality and experience of playing in an environment like that but the spirit they’ve got and the fact they’re going to die for each other on the pitch.
“They could barely walk in the dressing room. It’s a phenomenal effort they’ve given, particularly after some of them having to play longer than we’d hoped on Saturday, at this stage of the season.
“What I would say is that we’ve clearly got to look after the welfare of the players. That’s part of what we were doing on Saturday, with a view to having the freshness we were going to need tonight to compete.”
The next game for the Three Lion’s would be against the current European champions, Italy. This is going to be a repeat of the Euro 2020 final game. They will finish this round of the Nations League at home when they face Hungary and will be looking forward to also get a win in the encounter.
Meanwhile, the English captain, Harry Kane scored his 50th international goal in the 1-1 draw with Germany on Wednesday which leaves him 3 goals from getting to the top with Wayne Rooney at 53 goals.
