England national team manager Gareth Southgate has confirmed Harry Kane is yet to recover from his injury and will miss England’s first international friendly against Brazil on March 23.
Kane, 30, had his history-making day against Darmstadt ruined after he picked up a gruesome injury blow.
Following up a near-miss that bounced off the crossbar, the England prolific goalscorer crashed into the goalpost twisting his ankle while trying to poke home the rebound.
With a few minutes left to play, he limped off the pitch and had to be subbed off.
Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund was the first to raise concerns about Harry Kane’s injury. Freund said Kane had to be subbed off the game as a precaution and may not be allowed to join up with the England squad for the ongoing international break.
However, after diagnosis, Bayern Munich confirmed Kane had sustained an injury to his left ankle but will be allowed to join the England squad while undergoing rehabilitation with the team in collaboration with the club.
Now, England national team manager Gareth Southgate has confirmed Harry Kane will miss the Three Lions first international friendly against Brazil on March 23 as he is yet to recover from injury.
“Harry will miss tomorrow’s game and he is also a major doubt for the next one,” Gareth Southgate said as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
The concerns are whether Kane will recover in time to play for England in their next friendly against Belgium on March 26.
It is yet to be determined when he will be fit for a return to action and it is unlikely he will be back against Belgium as confirmed by Southgate.
However, the England international will hope to return to his roaring debut Bundesliga campaign after the international break.
Kane has shone bright for Bayern Munich despite the club’s less-than-stellar run this season.
Against Darmstadt, the England all-time topscorer recorded his 31st Bundesliga goal, becoming the first Bundesliga debutant to hit the incredible goal tally. He broke a long-standing 60-year-old record set by Uwe Seeler, who scored 30 goals for Hamburg in the German topflight in his debut campaign in 1963/64 season.
