Gareth Bale has confirmed he will be joining AT&T Pebble Pro-Am – a golf tournament in February 2022, few weeks after retirement.
Gareth Bale is a lover of Golf and his retirement from football has now afforded him the latitude to pursue and serve his cravings for the elite sports.
While plying his trade with La Liga giants Real Madrid, Gareth’s love of the sport and attempt to place it side-by-side with his football career earned him contempt of the club.
After his retirement, he is now set to go full-scale on the game and has announced his readiness to join the AT&T Pebble Pro-Am as one of the 156 amateurs that will play alongside pros such as Matt Fitzpatrick.
The tournament comes up in February and the former Wales international is set to open a new chapter of sports after he called time on his football career.
Gareth Bale broke the news of his retirement from football earlier this month after a storied career that saw him play for Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid, and Los Angeles FC in MLS.
The news came immediately after he joined Wales national team in 2022 World Cup, where they crashed out in the group stages.
Before finally hanging the boots, Bale’s football career was dwindling. He struggled for enough playing time at Real Madrid, before he moved to Los Angeles and spent just months with the MLS-side before quitting.
After closing a chapter in football, he is opening another in golf, and is ready to start as an amateur despite being a king in his previous sport – football.
The 33-year-old wrote on Instagram: ‘Delighted to announce I will be playing in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at the start of next month! Let’s go.’
Gareth Bale have a three-hole golf course in his house, making him a bit controversial as he attempted to combine his giant soccer career with the sport.
He posed, while on international duty with Wales, with a banner that read, ‘Wales. Golf. Madrid. In That Order’ – a move which sparked a backlash among supporters of the club.
According to reports, there will be 156 amateurs participating at Pebble Beach from February 2-5 and the same number of professionals, including US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick and world number five Patrick Cantlay.
Other celebrities listed to play include actor Bill Murray and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Bale will join the tournament as an amateur as he seek to build on his nascent golf career.
Meanwhile, there are reports Wales FA does not want him far from the national team since he announced his retirement. They have offered him a role in Wales FA to keep taps with him and bring him close to football administration in the country.
Before his retirement, Bale won 21 trophies including five Champions League, and other major trophies.
